What happened to the engine to require replacing it at 18,000 miles ?

The Cat D register is the problem and will affect the vans resale value even with low mileage.

If you don't know what the reason was for the van being written off then you aren't going to instill any confidence in the person considering buying it.

You could get a full AA inspection to help a potential buyer.

Honestly, I wouldn't touch a cat d vehicle. I've seen cheap replacement panels used in the repair rust out in a few years.  So whilst it may look good today it doesn't mean it will always be like that. Its all about risk and I'd rather not take that risk. In the trade we wouldn't consider trading a cat d vehicle in tbh, so my prejudice mainly derives from then.

Another thing that would put me off is the replacement engine. I see I'm not the only one to question this.

Every Mot has passed no advisories and mechanic who specialises in these vans says he cant see any reason for the cat D
Never missed a beat and had regular service, lovely vehicle and it has a lot of sentimental value as when my dad died I bought it with the little money he left !      Will take your advice about the AA inspection though,  should I say any AA inspection welcome or get one myself please ?

Thanks for the advice

Actually thinking of writing in to the show cos my daughter has had three boyfriends, one was a drugs dealer who tried kicking her baby to death when pregnant, and the other was a rapist who knew he was going to be sent down and got her pregnant for a lighter sentence !     Told her to drop him, but she got engaged to him in prison cos he said he was innocent.

Now she has fallen out with me again after decorating her house because I was knackerd and wanted an hours sleep in her bed, and the bedding was a bit minging top be honest but as soon as I hit the pillow she did her mothers old trick and told me to p off !

Personally, I would get one so it can be viewed there and then. When you say AA inspection welcome its telling your customer that he needs to satisfy himself that what he is buying is sound and chances are he will loose interest.

You could be very fortunate and find a window cleaner looking to upgrade  who will buy it as a complete system.  When you add an accessory that potentially values the van well above its market value buyers tend to pass over it. I would lean toward selling the PF system separately tbh.

I would also advertise it as a low mileage van, period.

the guide lines from insurance companys is they will pay 20-30% less if its a cat c or d

most in the trade know that these no set standard for a catc or a catd  ive seen some cat c and ds that should of been cat bs (scrap only) and ive also seen some cat b that could be repaired very cheaply

best thing to do is to put it up for sale and go from there , maybe start at the price of a one that's not been bumped which means the gear in the back comes free ? or just put it up for sale at market value then if not bites you can drop the price from there

Put it this way a n associate of used to sell Vauxhall  and which are much the same as the Renault range,he told me if i was to buy one on one of there offers at the time the van after 3 years wouldn't cover the balloon payment. I think it was 250 a month or similar so that tells you what they are worth second hand.l,he reckoned trading it back in they probably wouldn't give me much more than 4 grand

Maybe it was as simple as the van got nicked and had the engine taken ?
Hence the cat D and new engine .
Stolen to order cos some scrotes injectors seized in .
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !
