Jeff,

Try Cleantech
Phone
01563550450

I use thier "Cleantech Pole" with black screw cones.  It's a 3x2mtr pole and the cones screw up quicker and tighter.  This is the pole I use day to day on ground and 1st floor work.
If you take of the handle on the end then the 4th section of the unger Telepole will fit on.  The Unger Telepole has a 5th section creating a 5 x 2mtr pole 30ft, plenty for most 2nd floor and some 3rd floor work.
All the Unger and "Cleantech" cones and screw inserts are available from Cleantech.

I've got the five sections of the Unger pole, but I believe they do another two sections on top of that.

Ian Giles has them and he probably purchased his from Aquatech, Peter Fogwill.

You can make your own 6&7th by double ending the thicker base sections

Yes up to a max of about 40ft for occasional use after which it tends to max out. Although I have been to 48ft. Its ok if you just want to do the odd jobs just out of reach. I liked Unger but now use "featherlight"
Personally I think unger missed their chance a few years ago by not re introducing the longer sections they used to make and simply producing a decent  brush to fit. Say a 5x 8ft or 5x10ft with combinations of their 1m pole, instead of going down the new road with their new modular sytem which by comparison is expensive. Maybe one day they will change their mind. ?
Peter uses a double ended 5th section then a no4 section then another 5th etc. I used a doble ended 5th then a 14" piece of no4 section then a 5th sect then another piece of 4. The weights etc are in the A-Z wfp guide of the other forum under "Equipement weights"

Jeff , You need to knock off 3m of the argos sizes to get to the true size. If your bored look at this http://d.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=194&sid=a977b314a608e5eabe8c1f24954e0b3a

You can only add the sections to the Telepole not to the other unger ergo pole as they dont intermix.

"was it any good ? " if you mean the unger, then for the price yes, if you mean the feather light 26ft @£135 to expand to 60-70ft YES. Tell you how I did it -NO if you re read the post I am selling the service and know how for a very small profit. Finding out how to do it was expensive and time consuming so I could do it for you for not a lot, or you could follow the topic and try it for yourself and make the same mistakes I made.

Jeff I'm not interested in making my own poles,

I was just looking to extend on my unger poles, but when I was looking through the argos catalouge the other day, I remembered reading a post on fishing rods, and it turns out it was your post.

If I could have easily converted a fishing rod without to much hasstle, then maybe I would have.
But at the moment I am really looking to extend the pole's I have, as I don't want to get into anything higher than three stories high.
If I can acheive that with my unger poles then so much the better.

One thing for sure jeff, I would sooner learn by other peoples mistakes, its so much safer and cheaper, so if I do get into the fishing pole side of it, you can be sure I will give you a shout

Take the washers off the 5th pole and wrap a bit of stiff paper as a template and copy the pattern of the square holes onto the paper, use this as a template on the other end of the 5th section and cut the "square" holes into the aluminium, I use a a fine drill to follow the markings, knock it out then file to identical shape. Buy some new green washers and another No5 cone. You now have a double ended No 5.
You can then either use a piece of No4 as previously mentioned or Buy another No4 6ft section and use upside down, then another No5  etc etc.
It takes a bit of time and you do need to be precise when making the holes but you can do it. Only fit the extra sections as add a sections, once the pole is vertical if you try to raise it from horizontal you risk permanently bending the No 4 sections. I have an old post somewhere will see if I can remeber where I put it. After 42ft the pole tends to want to return to earth gets wobbly and can become difficult to control and "max's out" Its only a temporary solution for the odd windows but will save you££ buying new equip.
