It's wrong to jump to the conclusion this is the landlords fault, to me we are not getting all the facts, the problems outlined don't happen overnight, we are due to have the damp problem in our bungalow done ( plaster taken off, chemical injection, replastered) we have a serious damp problem......but even we don't have it as bad as listed above. How can everything listed be effected? did you not see the beginning of the problem 3 -6-9 months ago?
Poor ventilation , portable gas fires , drying clothes on radiators all cause damp problems
I think there is a massive exaggeration going on or we are not being told all the relevant facts
Yes you are correct in the fact it had happened over a period of time.
The property was a converted 1 bedroom cottage on a Main Street, it was a small property and no where for drying clothes etc outside with no garden. It was probably a bad discison on my part to move in. But I had little choice at the time due to a relationship breakdown, I was time poor and the place looked nice at the time, newly painted etc. It had been explained to me there was a roof leak at some point, which had been repaired but was due for full repair before the season would change. The owner is a roofer so had no objections to this. I used a dehumidifier alsmost every day as asked by the landlord and had widows open when possible. rising damp delveloped in both the kitchen behind units and living room behind the sofa, which wasn't noticed properly until about 6 months later. When the weather was turning wintery... I moved in April so had the summer.
I would love to say I'm exaggerating on this, and you may well think that I am, but I can assure you it's not pleasant. I'm an emergency service worker and pride myself in my appearance and the how I look. So it's not a case of neglecting where I live, especially somewhere that does not belong to me. But the facts are anyone that has experienced this would know that you become nose blind and as the issue was behind sofas and unit etc it may not be notable straight away. I've no doubt that drying clothes in the property could have had a factor in humidity levels, but as I said I did have a dehumidifier running most days and windows open. The fact that I was given my full deposit back when leaving the property also indecates that if the land lords had a shred of doubt that I was to blame for the mould and mildew, I would have not got back my deposit.
I would have moved out earlier but as I'm in the process of buying a property now I just kept thinking one more month, one more month. I couldn't take it anymore and decided to move back to my parents until I get my keys for my new place. This is when I have really noticed it and can't beleive how bad my clothes have been.
My electrical goods such as my Xbox, sky box and tv, have the same stank on them. My clothes can be washed but it's mostly that sort of stuff I would like to try and clear any smell before I take it to my new pad...I hope this helps in your investigation on my issue?
Like I said previously thanks for your response. I happy to share my issues with anyone reading this, but I mainly want to try and find a product or a solution to this as I thought that was what this forum was about, helping each other with cleaning issues...
If anyone has a similar story or has found a cure please comment! Many thanks! :-)
