Currently run a portable with a 135psi pump.  I was thinking of upgrading to 220psi but was wondering if it will actually make a difference in results and cleaning times?

I've a 150psi induction pump if you class that as an upgrade. Unused.

The particular machine i'm thinking of upgrading is an old  hydromaster portable machine with twin vacs and built in water heater. The machine itself is in great condition and works great. It holds 70 ltr in water tank with a 50ltr waste tank.  Just thinking a more powerful water pump will perhaps speed up the job abit and might produce a better rinse of the carpet.  I was also thinking of changing wand jets from 0.02 to 0.03 as well.

sounds good just make sure the pump will fit prior to buying it as many years ago I had the same idea
but unfortunately it wouldn't fit my machine but that was 10years ago so I would imagine pumps have

How many cords does it use? If it's on 1 electric cord then then the bigger pump might make it pop fuses.

I would try the bigger jets before forking out for a new pump, you don't know the existing pump might not be pushing out its full capacity so the bigger jets might give you the extra flow you are wanting.

You will need to fill your machine more often with bigger jests & pump

I've never understood high pump pressures. I've always used 135psi. Why would you want to drive the water as far into the carpet or upholstery as possible. Surely we're not trying to wet the back of the carpet/material.  All I can see is problems. Even at 135psi you could shrink a shrinkable carpet but at much higher pressures surely theres even a greater chance of this?
