« on: February 11, 2017, 11:09:09 pm »
Hi Guys,

Just purchased a Alltec Advantage, booking on a course in next couple of weeks.

What I need to know is its a twin vacuum Lamb Ametek 5.5 inch motors with a 135psi pump ( ebay item 282339803041 )

Does anyone have any suggestions for upgrades on it? Any advice greatly appreciated :)
Many Thanks
Chris

The pic shows one of the vac motors has  ' brushes changed in 2008 written on it ! , indicating they are quite ancient and miraculous if still working .
So u might consider swaping in new vacs and u could upgrade the pump to perhaps a 220 without much refitting . Depends on how much u can do yourself , you could just drop it into Alltec and get it fully checked and upgraded.
I would be check the heaters working , the electronic float cutoff , perhaps check the wire connections for oxidation and file the contacts fresh ...  clean out the waste gate seals , check for any vacuum leaks etc ... just go through every part and clean repair or replace as u go .

Thanks for the reply John.

From what I could tell from the previous owner he had it as a backup and hardly used it, I have tested it and the vacuum seems ok, was considering changing the brushes on it if not too difficult with a view to new motors soon.  No leaks from what I can see, heats up ok but slowly so possibly a new element ??  . The cutoff works ok, will certainly check the waste gate seals as it has a little trickle after its closed.

I appreciate your feedback and as time goes on I will replace what I can  ;D

I use to have one of these machines.

Really good back in the day , a tad under powered now so yes upgrade the pump.

On the plus side so easy to work on .

As you know the panel with all the motors etc just comes right off.

If you are using cold water it will be slow to warm up.

What I used to do was first off fill the machine with hot/ warm water from the tap and turn the heater on while setting up.

Then while working "top up" when the machine is half empty and not empty .

This will keep the water hot during the job.

Also o purchased a heat exchanger and ran both heaters when needed and guaranteed steaming hot water if that's what you need

Thanks

Mark

Oh and check the lid seal.

That used to come away from the body.

Thanks for your reply Mark.

I gave it a test run today seems ok but understand its dated so want to upgrade it as much as possible.
Not sure whats compatible with it but Alltec seem very helpful and im sure they will point me in the right direction. Can I ask what heater you used with yours also any vac or pump upgrades you did.

Thanks Again :)

I didn't do any upgrades as when I got it it was as good as you could get anyway.

I can't remember the heater but it was an in line heat exchanger connected in the last 25 ft of hoses.

Chris at Alltec will sort you out.

I bought mine from Alltec when he was a mere engineer there.

Cheers

Mark

Mark

I had an extracta excel as well before the advantage !

Bright yellow thing , it died in the end as the fibre glass vac tank cracked .

Was a pig to work on as well as if I remember rightly you had to turn it upside down to get the vacs out.

Great performing machine though
