Renewal is due beginning of March. I went on confused.com and there was no options to declare a water tank so I put in carriage of own goods from the drop down menu,  I was amazed at how low the quotes were, we are being screwed over by insurance companies when declaring a tank as a modification

Go compare gas the option to add water tank as a modification but you will only get a few results back and they will be quite a bit more than without the tank

Shocking isn't it!
The temptation to not declare the tank is strong.

The way I look at it, your not lying if the question of having a tank isn't asked and you've filled in every other question honestly.

Mines not declared.

Its not a fitted permanent feature it's a tank of water with a ratchet strap. Its carriage of good imo.

Besides had a dink last year and lost my no claims so  it's gone up to 500 from 300 as it is.

Like said above I've answered all the questions on go compare and no where does it say have u got a tank fitted. How am I supposed to know if I'm not asked.

I'm with Adrian flux. They were a good £400 cheaper the Alexander swan for me. I mentioned the tank and that it is ratchet strapped in and they said it is classed as carriage of goods as it is not a permanent modification. Might be worth giving them a call.

That's who I'm with at the moment but my tank is bolted in. If I wasn't to declare the tank I can get insurance from confused.com for half what I paid last year . The really annoying thing is I could put the tank in with bloomin cable ties and in the process put my life and others at risk and I would get a better deal from the insurance underwriters, madness.

Its so wrong.
You bolt a tank down and its costs double.
Yet you can carry anything, have it going all over and its cheaper.
this is why I use straps.

Thanks for the info, I went on this site and got a quote from MORE TH>N business for £262 with tank declared, which is £100 cheaper than I paid last year, doesn't include courtesy van tho.

How do you guys get it so cheap?Mines just over £1000 with aplan for a vivaro with 650ltr tank bolted  down.

I think you will find that the minute you go over 350L it puts a lot of underwriters off the list , also madness i know but if a tank is bolted it is classed as a mod , if strapped and easily removed its not a mod , its all red tape and cash cows as most will be using more than a 350 L and they know this as fact , hence why i use a 350 and have it strapped to a removable frame that is bolted to  the original eye loading anchor points , therefore no mod to the original chassis has occured .
Looks like i found the loopholes by pure chance !

Aviva didnt class my tank as a mod. About £250 cheaper than A plan.

Post codes make a huge difference.

At my old house with a bolted in 650L tank declared as a modification no points on my licence 10+NBC transit 330 the premium was £380, in janurary, I moved 3 miles into a small low crime town same postal town CM6 and my insurance shot up and extra £25 a month. I did quotes for a new policy as I thought the insurance company was ripping me off, but no the new postcode is goIng to cost me an extra £200 per year.

Havnt had to switch for 3 years now, usually pay around £300 for the year.

I've insured with them about four times and they've always been very good. No issues with a pick up and 400 litre tank whatsoever, or going off road to fill up. Very reasonable bunch.

I was with gladiator but when i asked for confirmation in writing for the water tank they said yes but i never got it,must `ve called  them a dozen times.Direct line where  worse they said the water tank was fine so went ahead when i recieved policy there was no mention of the water tank.When i rang them they said they dont cover water tanks.You need to be carefull they`ll tel you anything to get your money you need to check youre actually covered
