My best paying job is a £5 terraced front 2 windows and a door than can be done in approx 2 mins. £150 per hour on that one.

however my day rate average is only 150 so compared to me you are a willy waiver

240 is a cracking days money for cleaning some glass imo

An average days takings of 150 would be about the same for me also Adam.
This job was not in any way ordinary for me and I lack confidence in pricing a job such as this hence why I posted.

I did a first clean on an existing customers new house yesterday.
My best paying, but probably due more to the time it took inside and out. As I really had no idea as to how long it would take I quoted it on an hourly rate I had already been charging him previously on his old place that took two hours.
I actually suprised myself for once by being pretty accurate on the length of time it would take. Approx 8 hours + breaks and redoing a few windows that spotted but mainly for my own peace of mind.
I'm not going to mention price yet, but fair to say it was very reasonable.
I'm just curious as to what others would have done - day rate ? a fixed price ? or as I did ?

I quote per window/holes in the wall making adjustments for large apertures, on larger properties I try to asses time required to ensure I get it correct,  if anything I would add a % for contingency  I find this method ensures larger properties generate a better hourly rate, which I think is justified.

I find quoting/sales a psychological battle,  you want the work and therefore try to second guess the clients thoughts/reaction, you have no idea yet quote a lower price than the one in your head LOL! The answer lies in believing the value/service you provide and be willing to walk away if the two don't marry up.

Cheers Smurf. Maybe the posts title was a little misleading though. I wasn't out to blow my own trumpet or give myself a pat on the back. My earnings are very humble ones compared to the big boys on here. I know that and it does not bother me in the slightest.
I am just trying to gauge how my pricing structure and charging fares compared to others. Local windies will rarely openly discuss prices with one another. I want to be somewhere in the middle - not too high and not too low.

If you are happy with what you get for a days work then that's all that matters bud. If not then learn from it as pricing jobs up is a big learning curve for sure.

I also price per frame and don't worry in the slightest how long it takes to do the job.

For instance I did a first clean inside and out on a local salon today. It took me over two hours to get it to a standard that I was satisfied with, and the hourly rate would make the so called big boys on here laugh (or cry). However, the owner was delighted with my efforts and the job is booked in now as a regular, and will take a fraction of the time to clean in future.

I couldn't have cared less how long it took because I believe that taking extra time on a first clean equates to investing in that customer, and that investment pays for itself over and over through regular custom and recommendations.

Barry, take no notice of those who put you down. As long as your customer is happy with you, and you are happy with the job  and what you made from it, that is all that matters.

now this might sound a bit mad but i would ve probably refused the job as i cant stand cleaning inside windows esp if its going to take 4 or 5 hours.

i just dont want to get roped into doing jobs like that.im quite happy just banging out my regular work (with minimal notification/booking in needed.)

i have quite a lot of houses in the £20,£30,£40 bracket and these ones are the best for day rates v time taken to clean with minimal effort and hassle for me.

its not just the money.i weigh up how hard the work is going to be,whether there is a PITA factor and will it come round again in another month or two!can i just turn up and clean too!

ive been in this game a long time and just want  easy,shortish days for a good days pay these days.

Exact same as me. i haven't cleaned an inside window for about a year and a half now (domestic)  and dont take on any work if a domestic customer wants them doing time to time. Commercial slightly different but then so is the price however i dont do any builders type cleaning inside or out, i like to keep it very simple.

This is a good investment for the future - so you might "discount" the first one that takes two hours to the price of say one and a half hours knowing that as a regular it will only take say an hour or less.

I think if it's hitting above what you'd normally achieve for an 8 hours day of domestics, then fair play to you Barry. I'd certainly want at least that for being on one job all day, as I never take breaks until the work is done (I'd cease up and not get going again 😂), which makes it a much more demanding day's work.

theres absolutely no problem with having £4 jobs.one of the most successful window cleaners thats ever been on CIU admitted he had a few too(archer window cleaning).
