its not looking good for my van.garage said the engines for these are hard to get hold of.better to fit a 1.8 focus engine in my van as theres more of them about.

he said look on ebay for a scrapper? ::)roll

TBH i dont think its worth it.i might still have trouble with an old engine in it that i know nothing about plus he said itll cost me about £500 to fit it along with the price of the car/engine.he said he ll keep looking too but im not hopeful.

i think i should just ring the garage tomorrow and tell him to forget about it and just buy another van. ::)roll

I think u could pick an engine up local for about £500 try hills salvage to get an idea of price, a grand spent back on the road. Plus you don't do many miles so is it really worth spending on a new van when this is all set up.
Take the hit and get it fixed

What year is it Dazmond?

I'm sure if you have a word with say a bent  recovery driver shell like ear your van would just vanish overnight and never to be seen again.

the thing is you just dont know what your buying when it comes to used engines.ive no experience of this and absolutely zero confidence in buying an engine!ive never blown an engine up in 28 years of driving til now!

ill give them a ring next thursday and if they ve still not got an engine by then ill scrap it and buy another van.i only bought my golf before xmas for 5k so ill sell it(or part exchange it)and put another 4k towards it and i should get a good van for around 8k-9k.(with system and sign writing)

Dazmond, there are loads on Ebay , with delivery .

I have had two secondhand engines fitted in the past and one was delivered from Scotland .

You could be back on the road for a grand or so and still keep your car .

If you bought a Custom, you wouldn't need a car. Lovely to drive. Just like a car.

I've just forked out 800 to fit a new gearbox and clutch on my 57 plate scudo.

I too toyed with the idea of a new van on the face of it it's a lot of money to spend on an oldish van.

But even if you spend 10k on a van something could still go wrong with it it's a lottery. Plus in a fee years the depreciation on that van is going to probably be way beyond what fixing yours costs.

You can't really win either way because how long a van will cost to maintain over the lifetime you how it is pretty much down to luck.

rather spend my money on a new van than give it to the tax man  ;)
also if you pay the money on something new/newish your very unlikely to get trouble and also free motoring for a few years
