Fao spruce or any other techys. :)
« on: January 07, 2017, 08:31:43 pm »
 HelllllllllllllP? 😄

Anyone's help much appreciated. I'm helping a friend set up a system and the wiring that's missing is from the pump end. There's no markings inside the circuit board as to which is positive and which is negative?

I'm not wanting to blow the circuit board so thought I'd better check if anyone new.

Thanks in advance!

Jonny.

Our Varistreams don't look like yours and the PC board is different.

I have opened a new one (I bought it 4 years ago to replace one if they failed) I have in stock and compared them. I also removed the PC board to see if there was some markings underneath, but there is nothing.

I will open an older one I have on the van tomorrow and see if that's any different. The serial number is much newer than yours if that means anything.

If I look at the wiring of the plug on mine and link it with yours then your black cable is negative from the supply and the red cable is positive from the supply.
You are missing the red to the pump which is next to the red from the supply and the end one will be black negative to the pump.

Of course the best solution is to send Williamson Pumps an email and ask them.

Thanks spruce, really appreciate your help.

This is a very old controller, probably 7 or so years old.

From doing some digging I think I need to wire them black-red - red- black.

Left side Is to the battery, and right side is to the pump.

What's the worst that could happen? (Famous last words)

Thanks mate.

According to my controller, those 2 wires already in place are the battery wires. The pump red will be next to the battery red and the pump black on the end.

Hi Jonny

I've opened one of the original controllers and the pc board is identical to yours.

Its wired exactly the same way our newer controller is.

So from right looking at your photo the black cable is negative from power supply. The second is red from power supply. These 2 are already connected on your pc board.

The third will be red to pump and the end one will be black to pump.

That will do it.

Sorry, Super macro on the camera isn't very good.

Your a legend. Spruce.

That's perfect.

I've helped him set his van up yesterday and this was the last part of the puzzle.

He's bringing the van round later today so I will wire that up for him and that's him sorted.

Thanks again spruce. Really appreciate your time.

Cheers mate, that was spot on too.

Thanks to you both.

Got it all wired up for him and that's him set up ready to roll. Worked like a charm.

Cheers again guys.

 :)  Well done.

I know our Varistreams have each wire clearly marked as they exit the controller, but it would help if they used different colours for the pump wires like in Daves photo.

But then maybe Varistream don't want mere mortals to open the systems and start messing on.

From doing my research last night I think your right. Any technical info from varistream is all wiring diagrams of the external box, I got the impression me and my sausage fingers weren't supposed to be messing about inside.

It probably invalidates the warranty on my friends varistream but with it being close to a decade old I doubt they would honour that anyway.  ;D

Still works perfectly though. They are well made little units. Very little to go wrong with them really.
