sometimes you gotta admit defeat!everything frozen!
« on: January 05, 2017, 10:14:03 am »
so i put my heater in last night and turned it on along with my battery charger(or so i thought.)830 this morning and my van is cold and more ice on the inside windscreen than the outside! ::)roll

the heater plug was only half in the extension socket so it wasnt on all night.

anyway got to my first job just after 9am and everything seemed to be working fine.reeled out and managed half a window before the water stopped! ;D

the water froze in pole hose/jets.tried a different brush to no avail.water turning to ice as soon as it hits the ground.pump will not work at all at the moment.

so i pack up and come home.sat here with a brew in my flat and heater(defo on now!)in back of van.

ill try again this afternoon although part of me just wants to write this week off till next monday TBH! ;D

No problem with my van or the water.

However, I've just done a block of flats and it's freezing on the double glazing and especially on the footpaths. Just think it's a bit risky so have returned to the nest.

you probably did the right thing dave.theres nothing worse than water freezing as soon as it hits  the ground!your just an ice making machine rather than a window cleaner! ::)roll ;D

its a gorgeous sunny day though and it looks great out there looking through my window in my nice warm flat! :)

Its the first day back at work today... WELL it was meant to be...

I forgot to put the heater on in the van... all the pipes are frozen.  So all I can do is drop of the kid at school and walk the dog and play games on the xbox one...

and a few bits and bobs around the flat.

How do you manage to heat your van living in a flat are you able to park next to it or something, if i wanted to do it i would need to run an extension over the path..just wondered

Been cold in Liverpool also Daz

I won't wfp early morning when it's as cold as it is, if the ground is in the shade it will freeze over and stay like that, but my trad swag was frozen solid to this morn.

First job filled bucket up with piping hot water to melt swag and been ok so far, just about to start the wfp work while the suns out

frozen in stockport this morning, i always start the van then go and put abit of water through the system so i get abit of hot water through the reel however i forgot to drain my reel hose a few days ago and i had to get my trusty old tesco £10 blower heater out and bang that in the van for 10 mins, got the water flowing nicely so went and did a few jobs and was ok working on the glass with the hot water system but when i finished i could see it frozen on the ground so i ditched work off too and came home, at least ive started back and done a few before next week, just not worth causing slippy paths!

Not too bad in Wiltshire today. +5 now and sunny.
My partner bought me a base layer top for Crimbo. Am boiling up now.
When its really bad I go back to the trad pole with a backflip for upstairs and the usual trad for downstairs.
Safe and still earning.
10 litres of hot tap water will last til lunch.
-4 is my cut off. Below that and its freezing on the glass.

Didn't put radiator in van as it said it would be 1 then 2c. They were wrong. Inside of screen was solid. I normally bend the small hole and listen for the cracking. It was ok, so started first job at 10 when sun was out.
Last night I swapped my rectus as it was playing up. Couldn't connect when I got to job. Water was coming out slow. Cut it off and put old one back on.
I had 1 fan working, so swapped brush heads to an old dry one. Still 1 jet. Stuff it. Did friends church with 1 jet then it stopped.
After 45mins I packed it in and went home. By the time I got home, engine was at full temp. I have a rear heater, so turned it on. Walked dogs and left it running. Tried it again and after a min all kicked in. So off I went and did a few hours.
miles behind with hols and frost.

the rad is off in tonight :)

This is when my diesel heater with frostat monitor comes into its own,I finish work turn off plug hose into my tank and go in. When I go out to the van in the morning everything's hot and supple and ready for work, money well spent if you ask me.

This is where my immersion really comes in - drive home plug it in and walk indoors. Even less money well spent (about three grand less) if you ask me.  ;D

It's great isn't it Dave?

-4 this morning at 8 am; got to my first job in glorious sunshine at exactly 9 am and -3 degrees on the thermometer. Hand wiped the front door. Back door and step in direct sunlight so wfp'd it. Got to my second job at 9.20; temperature now -2 degrees, hand wiped front door and side panel, did the rest wfp.

3rd job started at 9.50 - no doors to worry about and now zero degrees.

4th job started at 10.05 got given a cuppa tea and a freshly baked "pain au chocolat". Yum. Temp 1 degree.

5th job - front only in direct sunlight.

6th job - used my small broom at back doorstep to sweep laying water to drain.

7th job - including lean-to conny roof which was in the shade and frost covered. Warm water soon melted it and it stayed dry. Temp up to 3 degrees. Church clock chimed 12 as I was finishing. Swept water in front of conny doors to drain and put a note through to say be careful on path at back of house as it might be frozen this evening.

8th - 12th job - van in one position - some parts of jobs in direct sunlight - others in deep shade. Doors in shade I used scrim or squeegee. Used broom to sweep lying water away from paths.

1.15 - 1.30 Stopped for packed lunch.

13th job temp 4 degrees - scrimmed door in shade.

Last job - a which is owned by a railway fanatic - home made level crossing gates for entrance way  - signals in the garden - mini garden railway - shed like a waiting room - enamel signs. Love it. But to do the backs you have to go through a farmer's field sometimes with cows in it so it entails pulling hose over a five bar gate and across about 25 yards of frost covered grass (fortunately the cows were out and the cow pats were frozen solid) and the warm water stopped the hose freezing especially as I use pole hose for the first 30 yards of my reel.

So finished at 2.50, went and got my daughter from school and went home.

Immersion is plugged in ready to go for tomorrow.
It's a game of three halves!

The immersion will warm your water but if it's really cold it won't stop hoses from freezing you need the water to circulate throughout the whole system as if your working, mine won't click in until it's needed or below 2 degrees comes on for 12 minutes and turns itself off. 3 grand well spent it's only just over a

Worked from 9am-3pm today no problems. Cold water too, as my diesel heater is knackered.
