you dont have to have a problem with it to stop  ;)
True, I guess I can't see why you would give up something that isn't in some way causing you a problem, however small.
i made the choice to stop cause i wasnt enjoying it and that i could save thousand of pound and spend the money on doing things that i really enjoy and get somthing out of that, over 6-7 years with out a drink,
also its a unhealthy drug and it does you no good and i seen it for whats it worth, and the soon i  relied that i didnt need a drink to let me hair down or to distress me or unwind,i found other ways to do it
I think that's impressive. Most people that stop, stop because they have no choice.

Reduce stress.

One way to go about that is by concentrating solely on wimdows and not trying to do a thousand things

Oh, so booze didn't cause you any problems so you just stopped?

I suspect your denial is unconscious, but it's there.

Even if it was for weight loss, unless booze was causing some kind of problem, I doubt you would've stopped.

You see Wor Lass, she's a 'normal drinker'; she has no problems with her weight.  She drinks maybe two-or-three times a year.  Booze causes her zero problems so she's never had the thought "I'm going to stop drinking all together!"

I don't murder Russians.  Not murdering Russians causes no problems.  Therefore the thought "I will stop murdering Russians" does not occur to me.

But I might take it up for a hobby.

I don't drink, never had a problem with it. Hate the taste of most drinks to be honest, can't tell a good brandy from a bad one, whisky tastes vile. Red wine tastes like vinegar, white wine close behind.
Pint of Guinness is ok but I'm full after one. On top of all that I don't enjoy the effect of alcohol.

Weird aren't I?

I went through the usual drunken weekends as a teenager drinking, smoking and puking. Then I just thought what a joke it all was and a waste so gave it up. Giving up fAgs was harder than drink.

It's all relative though. To some, no problems would have meant not needing a drink to function in the morning. But, I think I agree with Tosh.  ;D

nope no problem with the booze i made the choice to stop for a reason and not cause of a problem, that i could see it for what its worth, and it was nothing

remember its a drug and ive made the choice not to take the drug end of,and by that its able me to spend my money on other things that i enjoy,ie buy better bikes, ride aboard, enter more running events, spend more money on the house  etc,if i was drinking then i could afford to do these things simple,

it doesnt have to be a problem to have to stop, you may think so,so i agree to disagree,

What about people on here trying to see the positive in things or people, for at least january anyway.
So somebody wishes to stop drinking and now it becomes an open debate to if hes got a problem with drink or not and if he will admit to having a problem even sub consciously or not. Suprisingly its the same characters as well

I thought this thread was about New Years resolutions, not disputing others life decisions.

Good for you Franky. Lots of people decide not to drink, for a multitude of reasons, you don't have to be an alky to live your life without it.

I have friends who obviously are hooked on the stuff. They are in their fifties and use Facebook to promote their habit. We were bombarded with images over Christmas of them 'having a good time' always a drink in hand or a picture of their lunch. I don't get it really but then I am 'unsociable'
Personally, I despise Christmas, hate every sodding minute of it. Not because of religious reasons (I respect that) more like I hate being told what to do.
Once you take a step back and observe everyone else you see what a farce the whole thing is.

Resolutions always seem to be about giving up something you've spent the last two weeks indulging in rather than something more positive.

I like a beer once or twice a week with football and do not think it is any more harmful than owning a motorbike(broken back?) life is about choices and i would never choose to own a motorbike like you choose not to drink. Each to there own eh.
