Big freeze......
« on: December 31, 2016, 02:53:45 pm »
so  earlier this week i almost got caught out with my machine, had some ice in the rinse tank, not frozen solid but plenty of ice, which had me very worried but it was fine........  usually i take wands, solution hose and chems indoors if its looking really bad,
or i sometimes put a halogen heater on board with a timer, im in a lucky position drivewise to be able to do this without any
major worries........    i know insurance wise its not too clever, but hey ho....
If it looks like freezing is it best to fill machine right up and hope a large area of water wont freeze, assuming its covered over etc etc or is it best to totally drain the machine of all water as best you can, im a bit worried this will leave a small amount of water in the pump which still freeze up.......

i would run anti freeze through the machine , inline and solution hose at the end of a day if it looks like sub zero ,  the solution hoses are easy to carrry indoors though .

Would be best to totally drain and bleed everything. Plus cover everything or bring stuff in. I run a heater as the van has an outside power connector it is quite easy. But it is easy to get caught out.

Got caught out this week leaving the van on the road rather than pull it up the drive., it's amazing how if it's on the road it freezes but if it's behind the house it's ok, it's like the house emits heat that protects the van.

I also bypass the heater into the fresh tank on the last job......so I go home with a water tank full of hot water, it act like a radiator in the back of the van.

I have a drive between two houses, very little room, but it means if i back my van down there is no access at all to the side door, and if anybody breaks into the back door, they can get stuff out but cant get it up the drive past the van, bingo!!  Also  i definately find when the van is parked thus, with my car out on the road, the fact the van is between two close walls means it seems to gain some insulation and often the car will be white over and frozen, the van wont........... id love to say im clever enough to have planned it that way when  i bought the house, but alas im not...... :( also i can run a lead from the back of the van, into my garage, then plug an halogen into the extension lead and leave it on with a timer............   garage door is slightly open, but as above they cant nick out of it cos they cant take it anywhere........
