You will find any heavy duty cleaner degreaser or tfr will do the job. My current favourite is made by Merlin but difficult to find online, I get it from a local cleaning supplies shop.
Better yet, good old fashioned cif cream cleaner. It cleans better then anything else IMO.
Things like ubik, virasol etc are a bit more convenient to use as you can dilute them in a backpack and spray con roofs, fascias before cleaning them with wfp. Whereas cif you need to apply directly to brush and scrub, so can take longer, but you get better results.

I use virosol for gutters etc, magic eraser pads for black marks on upvc, a yellow tin of lighter fluid for sticky labels etc on glass, and Squeegee off in my trad bucket.

Is there any detergent that can be applied just using the brush and wfp which can remove the black runs from rubber seals and also grey staining on white frames? Or is climbing the ladder and getting up close with cif and a non scrape scourer or sponge the only solution?

I would just put some virosol in a bucket, pre wet up ya frames, then dip brush head into bucket with chems in, I would turn the water off and give frames a scrub up with wots on ya brush head from the bucket.

If you have an ics supplier local they sell virosol Under the name of power sol, and there hd degreaser is even better IMO

This is exactly the method i now use and find it works really well and is actually quicker.

Thanks for the replies Matt and jo5hm4n, will give that a go and if it's not satisfactory I'll recommend them to get new windows installed like Dazmond says  ;D

the thing is if the rubber seals have bled onto the frames and been there for years, the chances of you removing the inky black sludge are very slim but you could spend hours trying to get them clean. ::)roll

....and i bet every time you think your getting the frames clean more black ink bleeds from the rubber seals.

your wasting your time and it could put you in a bad mood for the rest of the day. ;D

That would be classed as frame restoration work and not the job of the window cleaner, as Dazmond has stated this can be costly, time consuming with no guarantees of getting them to a decent standard.
There are products out there that will buff/sand a thin layer off the frames but this may remove the protective covering which will then leave the frames opened to sun damage/powdering which could give you problems with milky runs in future cleans.

Trouble with black runs from rubber is every time you clean windows more black comes out. Got acustomer who had new hinges fitted but fitter got black all over frames then told her it would come off with Fairy liquid. I told her to get him back to do it then I am not clearing up someone elses mess .
