Had a customer about 1 year now. I charge her £10.
When I first quoted her, round back was very tight and had loads of wood around. Told her she would have to move it and then 2 windows could have bottoms missed.
Anyway. She didn't clear up, so I always gave it a slap and tickle round back.
Then she askes if she could do it every 8 weeks. I agreed and just knew if I asked fro more £ she would leave. Easy job, so left it
Round back is full of junk now. Can only do 1 out of 4 windows. Never said anything.
Today she was in. Did my usual 1 window round back.
Gets text 1 hour later....
Hi Duncan,, I noticed the back windows wernt done today, so ill just deduct a little for that which is only fair.

I can only get access to 1 window.You were clearing it for me, but its got worse.

I nearly told her what to do, but got a lot of work near her.
Think I should just not go anymore, unless she pays in full

Tell her £10 is your minimum charge,  regardless of how many windows & if she tidied her sh*t  up you would clean all the windows

she was going to deduct,     not likelly,   you know how  much to deduct if any , not her.
Just price her for the Fronts only.     Tell her health and safety,    any nails in wood  or any trip hazzards,  she will be responsible for any insurance laim.   Just do the fronts,  easy life.    not worth stressing.   If shes not happy just say you have passed her onto another windy,  even though you havent.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm seriously dreading what it's going to be like in ten years time. I've had a few of my old faithfuls pass away this year, you couldn't meet better people but I would say at least 50% of new customers in their 20s or early 30s turn out to be problems. "Leave it this time mate" types or as in your case booby trapped back yards or dog poop everywhere. I'm not saying older customers aren't guilty of the same but there's a higher number of them for sure amongst the young.

If she were my customer I would clean the windows I could get to, leave the ones I couldn't, tell her when collecting, and only charge for the ones I could clean.  I have had a few of these in the past and there have been no problems with any of them ... ever.

I've been at this game for 40 years now and have found the same thing. Funny thing is, some that were a bit of a pain when younger have mellowed and are excellent customers now.

   This job is a PITA, she won't clear her rubbish, after you have asked her too, she says she will deduct payment because
   you can't access windows to clean because of her rubbish. 
   All this for a lousy 10 pound,  just forget about this one, don't say anything to her, just don't go back, your time is
   more valuable than to waste time with messers  like this surely.

Just tell her thats why its only a tenna. If you had to climb and faff to get the other windows than you would have had to quote accordingly.
Or, take this one on the chin for all the times youve got away with it and next month is the time to do a yearly price increase, price it higher and let her get rid of you unless she suprises you and accepts the increase. If not she will feel like she got the upper hand by firing you, you know better as u planned it that way. But because she feels like that, she sont damage your reputation in the area which, in your own words is more important than this lasd messing you around.

Or simply after she pays you what you charge. Simply tell her that your not able to continue your service with her under these conditions which are out of your control and for her to find someone who is able to.  Unfortunately your not able to.

Never just dont go back, if your not concerned about her affecting your reputation because it is solid based on you as a person and the quality of your work. Have the satisfaction of firing her as a client.

I had one who i let off messing me arou d once before and i soo  regretted it. Been cleaning her windows for about 10 yrs. Than i got a txt from her about something petty and so i told her, in a nice way, that i wasnt able to continue my service with her, thanked her for the yrs of work and suggested a new cleaner from now. She soon sent a txt back apologising and kinda playing it down. But i made it clear on previous txt that i had stopped. Again in a nice but professional mannar and didnt bother responding again.       This was just 2 months ago.

whats the point if you cant reach the windows and theres junk everywhere?i cant believe how messy some people are.i couldnt live like that.i like neat and tidy and pride in appearance.

just let her down gently.

even if you just dont go back it wont affect your reputation anyway if shes a dirty,scruffy trampy person.other customers will understand.

My two repsonses were of choices that could be made perhaps. Have you haf customers who you just walked away from? Im sure you have as i have. But afterwards thought i should have had satisfaction of saying "your fired" in a professional manner.  At least you become upfront about it. If worried what she may say, she may have alot to say to bad mouth him (obviously no real reason too), if he just doesnt turn up ie, "Caught him skipping windows and told him and he just stopped coming because he got found out!"
Not saying to waste anymore time, but sometimes its worth standing up to messers like this, especially when shes trying to dictate to him whats what as regards paying
