Auto Dump Valves
« on: December 01, 2016, 10:17:24 pm »
Anyone got one of the non electric auto waste dumps?

Are they just check valves that close under vac pressure and release when vac's off?

yeah ,  i picked up a 2" check valve but never got round to trying it ,   just a round plastic disc inside on a rubber hinge  that makes it open or seal .
Better if you have remote also i suppose .

Cheers John, i thought so

So they are swing check valves without a spring?

Do you have a link to the one you bought?

Seems weird how the vacuum still keeps the valve shut when the water level gets over it

Ive got soft start and remotes so auto dump seems worth doing

well only one way to find out - i'll have a go and see if it works!

i'd assume its without a spring as it shouldn't have a problem opening - its just the closing you need to make sure its ok at!

did it today briefly , it almost holds the water but not quite ... so it dont work .  It needs the assistance of a spring like u figured .

so , something like this ...  perhaops there are different spring tensions also , will have to look into it

Ok, shame that one didn't hold. How much water did you have in or did it just weep straight away? Problem is if it doesn't hold i would imagine a lot of turbulence in the tank and the danger of water drawing into the vac tower.

I did see the one you linked to but i think thats the one designed to be quiet and so the spring is there to soft close it, not help keep it closed, but i maybe wrong.

We need one where the spring keeps some tension on keeping it shut, not open. I've seen pictures of the one used on the Airflex and Enforcer and it definitely looks like a normal check valve - i wonder if they sell them in their own?

il try it again tomorrow , it was splattering out the gate and all hell was loose inside the tank then  :)
this is the storm
http://thumbs.picclick.com/00/s/MTYwMFg5MDA=/z/qVAAAOSwzaJX69py/$/Airflex-Storm-Carpet-Cleaning-Machine-_1.jpg

the valterra one i linked has a 1/2lb spring  , the one you linked has a 2lb spring , and iv seen a 5lb spring version  ...
how do you find out how much spring you need ?      if it was too strong it might close befor the water empties fully ?

Yep thats the problem. If the gate valve is open with the vacs running and water is in there it creates mass turbulence and water will go down the stack into the motors.

The spring strength is key, guess they practiced until they got it right - wonder how much they sell em for?
