It depends on the hose length, the motor configuration, the type of carpet and the way you use the wand.

Yes you will notice a massive improvement with that set up. You should be able to go out to 75ft.

get yourself 50 foot of 2 inch and two 25 foot  inch and a half, that will cover most eventualities......
try keep the 2 25 foot hoses clean for indoor use wherever possible and you should be fine.....

If only helps drying time by half hour or an hour I prefer to use 1.5" as it's much easier to carry but if it's more than that then I have to

Its not all about hose size its about getting the correct configuration. Don't forget the wand jet size matter just as much.

I have meters etc and have tested many vacs and the water lift measurement remains the same for both 1.5" or 2" hose

same , lift not affected , but 50ft+ of 1.5 will have noticably lost way  more airflow than the 2" .    dont matter if its a series or parallel machine 2" will preserve what u start with on long runs .
U have to weight up the airflow benefit to awkwardness factor on some jobs though with 2" but even 25ft of 2" combined with 25ft 1.5 is better than just 50ft 1.5 imo.

I have tried cleaning half a room with a 2" hose and the other half with 1.5" hose and the part I cleaned with 2" hose was dryer but I use a mach 12 , 2"for 2" hose  and standard 2jet s band for 1.5" hose I don't know if the wands effected the drying time or not

You could have 4" hose and still have the same lift, what you need to know
is how long from placing the wand head on the carpet thus producing a seal it
takes to evacuate the recovery tank and hose to reach peak suction.
What everyone fails to realise is that if the wand is correctly sealed on the surface
of the carpet, it does not matter whether you have 2 x 3 stage in series or parallel,
or a truck mount or 25 x 6.6" configured however you like. Research has proved you
will always have a maximum of approximately 53 Cubic feet of air crossing that wand
carpet interface. The only way to raise that figure is to break the seal as in lift the wand
tilt it or fit a glide, at this point you are losing lift.
