I think this would be the one  ;)

How would that work as its much thucker than a cog

It wouldn't, it was just that Spruce hadn't seen a large pulley yet, and I decided to have a google  ;D

 ;D

You're right. It wouldn't work for our application as the pulley is too wide. The suppliers of the motors with toothed pulleys don't list it as being available on their sites, so this would also indicate to me that they are making up a story.

This really confused me but now it makes sense. I bought a 4 channel remote and altho this feature may be useless ive managed to wire it up to spin IN and OUT. Had a spare channel anyway. heres a diagram i found which came in very useful.

I bought this switch, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131793343790?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=431161237728&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
and after hours of head scratching i found that you need to remove the jumper for it to work in a "momentary" fashion, which is what i wanted, in other words, i press button it turns reels on, i let go and it stops.

Hope this helps anyone, ask if you need any advice  :)

Couldn't get this to work with the two channel remote. It only jogs momentarily for about a second with finger pressed down on button and then stops. It only works when button pressed once ( reel runs ) and then pressed again to stop. I've already ordered another winch remote and relay and will have it so that when button is depressed it runs and stops when released. I just like the idea of having a main control unit in the vans and a hand held one on key ring etc...
If Carlsberg made window cleaners....I'd be one of them....lol

Mate does your circuit have a little plastic jumper? I had to remove that to make it work momentarily correctly.

Heres a little video

Thanks m8, no there is no jumper on mine. Its no worries tho, I'm gonna go with the winch remote. It does what it needs to do and same price...ish  ;)

Cant take any credit for this, as i got my mate to do it but was my idea lol. For those of you with the annoying belt driven motors, it is possible to do them pretty neatly.

Heat up and remove

Cut end off and neaten up ridges to allow enough room for chain

Fit the cog in place

Refit circlip

 :)

Well I think my systems finally finished.

https://youtu.be/IGuSNzQJ88Y

Because I got motors for free it's cost me about £13.50 a reel. I'd say with a motor costing about £25 you could do each reel for £35 comfortably. The remotes were £9 for 2 remotes that can control 4 channels. So this setup has cost me about £36 for 2 remote controlled reels  :) plus a few nuts, bolts and washers. Let's say £40 odd for my setup 8)

Oh I also fitted a switch inline with the remote transmitter as it doesn't turn off!

I also bought a fuse box from eBay so I can run multiple accessories off one point which I would recommend. Here's the link

Used it all last week and it's been such a useful thing. Makes that one aspect so much easier. An example. Finishing as it's getting dark on Tuesday and we're tired. Both had hose out 100m in opposite directions. Me with my electric reel has it in half the time and with no effort whatsoever. Left me to get some slips through the door so we could be off.

People were joking about the hassle and just buying one off supplier ready made. But like me others have found you can spend very little compared to the powerup and have something that does the same job.

Its not even hassle tho, just takes a little bit of figuring out. I reckon i could knock up a claber reel in about 30 mins now. And at £40 for 2 remote control reels...ill take a bit of time to figure it all out  :) (would cost about £70 if i hadnt been sent wrong motors...even so £70 would be a steal!)

End of day, as with my WFP systems, id much prefer to make them up myself rather than get someone to make them, as if theres a problem, 9 times outta 10 you can fix them yourself without any hassle.  I did have a system made for me last year, but i prefer mine to be honest. But as said these reels really arent that hard after making them up. Cog, chain...motor. Bit of drilling, jigging, and wiring. Done. So simple.

Used two reels last week, both fitted with home made electric reels and worked a treat. Would find it a pain to manually reel again. Was even able on a few occasions to reel in out of sight of the van. I've now put the winch remote in my sons van so its just press an release. I would much rather build my own and have the satisfaction of seeing it working.......and knowing that if theres a problem I can usually pinpoint where it is. Great thread from the original poster as I wouldn't have otherwise known about it. Certainly making life easier for about 40 quid.......a few hiccups here and there, but that far outways the 200 - 300 quid for the pukka system.

I had to go back last week to manual because I took everything apart over xmas and ordered me nicer fittings etc. I could defiantly tell at end of day! So all the bits came this week so been waiting to fit it all up nicely and finished today. Looking for other 12v things to run off my fusebox now. I have 10 spaces haha. LEDS in the back are my first thing because i cant see anything in there at night!

Has anyone noticed a fair bit of resistance when pulling the hose off? Ive fitted 3 so far...and theyre not unbareable but a fair bit harder to pull out. Anyone else had this or have a solution/explanation?  I know theres obviously going to be some with the motor on it etc etc.

It's the reel. I brought the first version ( motor added to a petal reel from waterworks) hard to reel out.
Just upgraded to the hd version and it's so much easier.
It must be down to the reel

I actually found that the chain was a little too tight, and the reel was harder to pull out. I loosened the chain and its so much easier. My son has a brand new reel in his van and its an absolute breeze to pull out, if you pull it too much it actually unravels freely....lol. Mines an older reel and the plastic bushes are worn a bit and theres a little more resistance, but no big deal. Wouldn't want to be without it now  :) ;D

The chain should have no more than 5mm movement according to the instructions that mine came with.
Love the fact that these are being DIY' d at a fraction of the cost.
