Like most things someone gets a good idea and makes a killing flogging stuff. But it don't take long to figure out how to make your own for the peeps are that way inclined at a fraction of the cost.

Yeah, it's a great thread. I'm glad you've kicked out back into the spotlight.
I've been thinking for a few weeks now,how to go about making my own powered reel. This thread has helped me identify certain items that are specifically useful. And areas of the market to get what I needed.
Big thanks to Kevin Quinn and others 👍

Just thought I'd share mine. Have it running off a 12v 7AH alarm battery so I can lift it out if I need to (very rare that I do). Built the wooden frame because my original was very bent. Also just use a momentary switch to control it.

Looks good. Might want to think about fitting some sort of chain guard on it though. Best also to take the wind up  handle off as you don't want to get hit by that when in use.

To those that adapted the belt drive motors to take a sprocket. What sprocket did you use?

The one I ordered is 2 big and I have realised that the sprocket motor and belt motor have different size shafts.

Does anyone have a link to a correct size sprocket?

Can someone put all links on for everything they have bought for the job where they haven't been let down with a supplier ie belt driven instead of cog and sprocket wrong size .and other question why would a belt driven one not be any good

Belt drive would be fine. It's just harder to do because you can't shorten a belt like you can a chain. Belts also require the right tension to stop them slipping.

Just look on eBay I got my motor no problem from petrol scooter on eBay £26 a mate just bought from there and was sent the right one too. Cog was from a guy who bought wrong size for his bike on eBay £3 and the switch was £2 from maplin. Wire £2 and battery I already had. I had some 6mm chain from a customer.

I spent over half hr reading all posts from page one shen i looked into this and many were saying they had problems with suppliers sending wrong motors. Thats why my previous post i out a link to a motor as it came as it should.  Also there are many threads on these pages for the cogs and chains, some are old links but it shows you what you need.
It also answers your question how they wired it up. Some use the battery they have and some also connect to wireless key fobs.
Me, i dont often need to move van or reel it all in and so i have one wire permanent to my leisure battery to my pump and then i simply touch other wire on, but i have them in close proximity.

I had to take mine to bits. I'll try again when I get chance.

I had no end of problems with the chain jumping off.  I messed with the tension and the length, I tried truing the cog up nothing.

It did my head in so ripped it out

What type of hose are you all using that is so hard to wind in and putting all this strain on your shoulders . Is it garden hose , mini bore or something similar . It takes me about 20 seconds very easy no strain to wind 120 metres of pole hose in .
