Hi Viz?
« on: November 09, 2016, 05:21:04 pm »
Who wears Hi Viz for work?
It seems to me that Hi Viz is becoming so much everyday wear that it's becoming meaningless.
I saw two Poppy sellers today in town and they were wearing Hi Viz!
I was surprised they weren't wearing hard hats and steel toe capped boots and weren't advising people to wear safety glasses before they pinned the poppy on their jumper  - you know them paper poppies can be really hazardous. ;D
Grocery delivery drivers wear it - Warning Hazardous Cabbage.
The man who came to fix my washing machine was wearing it, as if I don't know he's in the kitchen and what on earth it's going to protect him from, or warn me of I have no idea.
What's the point?

I have one from pound land.
Just keep it in the van and only use it when needed.
And by that I mean early morning work with cones near bus lanes , cycle lanes etc. or as its getting dark if working somewhere with lots of people walking about. I see the stupidity of people on a daily basis, you can be standing on the curb cleaning second floor windows looking up, cones out and hi viz or not and people will spring from nowhere , sneak behind you, ride bikes on the pavement etc. ..... So if something goes wrong, who's fault do you think its gonna be ?
Its about damage limitation .
As for grocery delivery drivers, I'm sure you would want to wear one given the high volume of traffic and the virtually lawless state of our roads. Plus its probably a requirement - imagine if they were to get hit by a car ? insurance companies and employers would probably do all they could to duck out of their responsibilities.

There was a bloke walking up the road the other day with a hi viz vest on. It was so bright it blinded me, I couldn’t see where I was going, so subsequently mounted the pavement and ran an old biddy over.

If I'm doing commercial buildings early in the morning and I think someone will drive into the car park where I'm cleaning then I'll wear one.
