« on: November 07, 2016, 10:53:00 am »
I've just ordered some clever wash to see what it's like http://www.softwashing.uk/cleverwash.html
Anybody else tried it yet. If so what do you think?

Oh I see what you mean now Chris  ;D https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1074/3286/files/SDS_Clever_Wash.pdf?9990495437407492424

Quaternary ammonium  compounds, benzyl-C8-18-alkyldimethyl, chlorides 1%
Amines, C12-14 (even  numbered)-alkyldimethyl, N-oxides

So are you implying this product is unsafe adding it to SH?

Why do you say that? Surely this product has been tested for suitability and says on the label "bleach stable" (my interpretation of that it's safe to add to SH) ???

Don't know about being unsafe...but I cannot see the point of adding bio-cide to bleach. What are you going to do kill the moss twice in one go?

The small amount in it by the time 1% has been diluted down by the recommended dilution rate of 200-1 I can't see the point in adding it to clever wash either Chris.

I use a aldi brand bubble bath which works just as well as a surfactant but only costs 70p a bottle... Clever wash is way overpriced as a surfactant...

Regarding the cost of clever wash going by the dilution rate of 200-1 5L of clever wash delivered to your door is enough to blend 250 L of SH so works out less than 11p a litre to 1L of diluted SH. I've not tried it yet but hopefully will also mask the annoying smell of bleach too. Cost wise looking at it that way it doesn't seem that expensive to me.

I do like to try various products so will have to wait and see if it's any good or not.

SH and Ammonia dont mix

however judging by your dilution rates there is virually nothing of the chemical in there anyway

This makes interesting reading http://www.mold-killer.info/quaternary-ammonium-cleaners-detailed/
"a quat is NOT and does NOT contain either ammonia or the true ammonium ion"

We are talking mixing chemicals here....you need to be pedantic. Ammonia and Quaternary ammonium are two completely different chemicals.

All you really need to know when adding stuff to hypo (whatever the strength is) if it instantly reacts and starts giving off toxic fumes then it's safe to say it's not compatible. Oh and best hold yer breath...

Been there done that so you could say I've got the T-shirt... Oops!   ;D

Just a quick update about cleaver wash  if anyone is interested as a test I added as small amount clever wash to a small amount of 15% neat hypo approx 1-1 mix. It instantly reacted and went white but gave off no toxic fumes that I could see which was a relief so I assume after that test clever wash is compatible of sorts  ::)roll

Next test if I'm brave/stupid enough is to add 40% DDAC to neat 15% hypo just to see what happens.

Well that was quite disappointing as the DDAC instantly reacted and turned white again but no toxic fumes were seen given off either. Still I will not be deliberately mixing 40 or 50% DDAC with hypo again.  But at least I know now when using hypo on render cleaning and after rinsing all surfaces and run offs well. Then wanting to treat the walls etc with DDAC I'm not going to gas myself now hopefully :D
