T230 Tank Size ?
« on: October 30, 2016, 02:23:49 pm »
Picking up a very tidy T230 next week, but can't find a difinitive answer on the maximum tank size ?. Pretty much every post states 500 litres........but will it take an upright 600 for that little extra if needed..............and more to the point will it fit in along the back of the bulkhead.

The payload is 900 and its the lwb high roof version.

Please correct if any stats are incorrect;
Tank water 600kgs
Tank weight 30kgs ish ?
Operator   95kgs
Leisure Battery 30kgs
One reel and hose 30kgs
Screwfix multi ladder 20kgs
CLX 27 POLE  1.8KGS

That leaves approx 100kgs to play with ? ( Rags, bucket etc...)

Thanks for any advice ?  :)
If Carlsberg made window cleaners....I'd be one of them....lol

Thanks Robert

Will probably only plyline the floor as I have fixings for side panels etc...., and don't usually fill up with fuel, so tank fixings would be the issue. Yes, I see it will probably be on its limit, but its just nice to know if we need that little extra on certain days it will be there ;)...and would I legally be within the weight.

I have the same van,  my setup is Facelift compact 325 with backpack and 6 x 25 litre containers if I think they would be needed tbh honest I only use about 300 litre max a day. So perfect setup for me.

Just noticed you mention we, so you will have to take in account the passenger also.

I've got the T230, great van.
If my memory serves me correctly, you may have a job fitting in the 600ltr upright if you want it across the bulkhead. I've got the 500ltr upright there, which fits snugly against the bulkhead, leaving me decent room to fit my other equipment in the back all neat and tidy. 500ltr should see you through a good day on the glass.
Yeah, 1ltr of water is 1kg ( more or less).

" We " have two vans already, this will be the third with one operator (employee). The other two vans have one operator each. I should have explained that ;)

Thanks Rigsby, Hmmm, so it could be a tight fit :(

500L max mate in a  T230 (with just you the driver,no passenger when tank full). If you need a bigger tank then id buy a bigger van with a bigger payload.its unsuitable for anything larger.

price higher/work harder!

Would agree with this, when you add fuel your going to be very close to the limit, plus I'm not sure if payload includes coolant
engine oil and so on, if not then then your cutting it even finer.

Battery won't be 30KG - more like 15 - 20KG

Operator 95KG - Fat Git like me.
It's a game of three halves!

I wonder if a 600 liter tank across the bulkhead will overload one of the axles (front?) even although the weight is well within the payload limit.

We found a 500 liter tank length ways worked fine with a T220 LWB Transit Connect.

Thing is, you might want a cage for a tank that big so that's a bit more weight. Or you could do it the Dazmond method and put it round the wrong way (Length-ways), cross your fingers, play the drums and hope the lip on the front stops it smashing through an invisible bulk head.

read the post above yours dave.

spruce has also put his tank length ways because its the common sense thing to do to evenly distribute the weight so no axle is overloaded. ;)

my tank frame weighs just over 50kg on its own.

Got my 500ltr tank across the bulkhead and the van handles quite nicely at speed. Just a tad more careful on a full load tank  :P

That doesn't mean the front axle isn't overloaded.

I just mention this as I fitted a 650 liter tank across the bulkhead of my first Citroen Relay 1.9. It was the best use of space, but with a full tank of water and the 2 of us inside, the front axle was overloaded. The payload of the van was 1155kgs.

Once the tank was turned length ways with more weight over the back axle, the front axle was then within its plated weight limit.

The Vauxhall Vivaro/Renault Trafic owners can have their vans with a 650 liter tank positioned up across the front bulkhead as the front wheels are placed further forward and the load is distributed better.

We have 110 leisure batteries and they are 30kgs, and yep 95kg...............all muscles...pmsl

Thanks for all the input, looks like the 500 is the way to go. We already have a dispatch with a 650 in it, just wanted a slightly smaller vehicle with the option of a little bit bit more extra water. A 550 tank would have been nice !!.
We have both our tanks in both vans across the bulk head. I just feel safer with it fixed across the bulkhead rather then set along the middle of the van with a high centre of gravity. Everyone to their own I suppose :)

Thanks for all the feedback.
