After seeing a paid for advert on here regarding Alexander Swans "we won't be beaten on price" i decided to contact them and get a quote for my Transit Custom with my GT system.

I went through all the details and declared my total loss from last year (theft) along with over 9 years protected no claims with no points , after explaining everything down to my dreams at night i told them that A-Plan had quoted me £900 with all the bells and whistles and i looked forward to receiving their quote.

They came back with a offer at just over £1,100 with no protection on my no claims bonus  They must think I'm racing around southend at night with the rest of the boy racers!

I wouldn't mind but most of the actual insurers low ball you as soon as you need to claim for something.

Apart from being disappointed with their "we won't be beaten on price" slogan it got me thinking, what are you water fed pole guys paying for your vans insurance after declaring you have a system fitted?

I've actually just gone over to AS after checking with my current (ex) insurer about water tank cover. They informed me that I would not be covered for a 650 litre tank, even though I was told on the phone at quote stage that it would be!

AS quoted me just over £300 for a Renault Trafic with 9 years ncb (protected) comprehensive and water tank bolted in. My old insurer was charging slightly more.

Lesson to me.... Get it in writing!

What's your tank got to do with it, as long as its secured and under the payload then its not illegal to carry a tank of water.
I'm insured with Axa  £280 with a bolted in tank which they have no interest in and didn't even come up when I was involved in an accident.
Some of you guys are being well suckered.

I was quoted 660 for a 64 registered transit custom with strapped in 650 tank by Adrian Flux
A plan said they could do it for 570
Rang AF back and miraculously they undercut  A plan by a £1
All insurers  are willing to haggle ( that's putting it diplomatically)

Exactly, for a start a strapped in tank isn't even a modification so as long as its not illegal to carry then its none of the insurers
business as it would insured under work related equipment.

Some of you sound like you have gotten amazing deals! I can only dream of a price under £500 I'm not sure why they continue to hit me with silly prices.

I am 35 and the van is a 64 plate yet I'm always the wrong side of £800

My citroen dispatch 09, is due 15/nov.     Im waiting for my renewal to come back from Gladiator, Insurance.     They were the Cheapest with a 500 litre butt strapped in back. 
Ill be hitting the comparison sites in a weeks tiime.

I'm with Alexander Swan and this is what I pay for a 2009 VW Caddy Van with a 400 Litre Pure2o System installed:

Commercial Van Motor Insurance : £340
WFP System with Poles + Ancillaries : £150 (Insured amount £5k)
Replacement Vehicle (with Reach & Wash system) Cover : £85
Legal Expenses Cover : £4.72
Total : £579.72

Also, if you have a tank in the back, it's no use relying on "oh I told them and they said it was ok".  You must have it specifically detailed in the policy wording, otherwise you're not covered.

As for tanks that are strapped in - some insurers consider it a modification, some don't.  You'll only find out for certain when you come to make a claim - which is obviously too late.

Each to his own (and I'd never presume to tell anyone what they should do) but personally I would never risk driving about with a tank unless I knew for certain that it was on the policy wording.

Exactly soupy, doesn't matter if its loaded up with bricks or a tank of water as long as they are carried in a legal manor
and needed for your business.
Stick to a reputable company/ broker and you wont have a problem.

That seems high to me. We're on three vans and £1,200 but it's not a "fleet" policy although all are on the one policy. I think as they are all named drivers it's not a fleet policy. That's how I understood it.

Mine can drive any van, but any new employee has to be added to the policy - currently 5 can drive any vehicle. Two of mine are 24 and interestingly it cost nothing at all to add them. In fact when one was added the premium went down.
