If you have the space at home to house a holding tank for purification,  go for a delivery only system. With a 350ltr tank you'll be wanting to refill to do a full day's work
To climb mount fuji you must first find a path

Marty, I myself like you was unsure what system to go for.  if you are going to spend money and want something that is better in the longrun than I recommend spending more really as it will make things smoother for running your business.  Firstly, the bigger the tank the more work you can do or work at higher flow per day.  If you can only go up to 350L tank, then personally I would get a RO system mounted to a IBC tank which you can store somewhere, ideally in your garage if you have one.  Make pure whilst you are out working or overnight then when you run out of water, use a transfer pump to get water from storage tank into your delivery only tank in the van which will take 5 minutes to fill.  That's what I do and I find it works really well for me!  But not for everybody, just thought I would share my system.  Also I used PureFreedom, entire setup cost me £3500, totally worth it though.

What van have you got?

Ideally you need a 500 liter tank for a good day's work in the summer. You may not use it everyday, but that's good. If you don't have enough water and you have to return to base mid afternoon to top up. chances are that you won't go back out to work for another couple of hours.

Water is your main ingredient and not having enough will  just stifle growing your business.

If you have a van with less that 800kg payload, then a 500 liter tank is a no go.

I had a xline system installed back in may. 500 Ltr tank in a Peugeot partner. It's a snug fit but perfect for me. James at xline is very knowledgeable and is from a window cleaning background which I think his family still runs. The workmanship is top quality and I'm really pleased with what they've done. Have had a few teething problems but they are extremely hopeful and will do their best to sort out any problems. I would highly recommend xline

Our tap water fluctuates between 99 and 125ppm. We use an r/o to reduce that down to 2ppm and a 7 liter di vessel to polish the remaining 2ppm. A 7 liter di vessel lasts us (2 cleaners) a year. We use about 13000 liters of pure a month. We use a 4040 r/o and process water into an IBC tank. All in all we use about 78,000 liters every 3 months (including waste water.)

We aren't on a water meter.

If we were on a meter then we would have to account for the 13,000 liters and the resin needed to purify that.
Window Cleaning Warehouse have a resin calculator on their website.

http://www.windowcleaningwarehouse.co.uk/resin-calculator.html

According to that we would use a bag of resin a month using 350 liters a day for 5 days a week. However, if I use my resin usage in their calculator it under reads in my case.

Then I would have to consider the hassle of changing resin and having to continually (everyday) monitor the tds of the water output to ensure  that the water is always pure.

I personally believe you need to supply your own water needs. In the early days most customer said we could use their outside tap for water, but most have no supply to them in the winter.

I would go with a 500 liter tank personally. It wouldn't cost much more than a 350 liter tank, your Trafic will carry it with ease and you should always have enough water for each days work.

I have a 650 tank in my trafic and it's a diy set up.

If I was u I would be banging around eBay or used equipment section on here and look Into diy, it really is easy.
First u need to check ur main water supply, I started off with Merlin RO but depending on how much water u need may be better with 4040, this is done using tds metre

What u need is
Tank in a frame ........ I got mine off eBay for £150
Shurflo pump ........ I use 6.3 lpm from agratech ( about £80-£95 new )
Controller ........ I don't bother with these just use a switch to turn on/off and run at full flow (£50 new )
11 ltr di bottle ( at least this size to prevent changing resin to often ) .... Reconditioned ones on eBay for £30
Hose reel rectus fitting bits an bobs all from circuit - hydralics on eBay

Ur van battery is in the floor in front of passenger seat, put a small slit in rubber and run wires from van battery and drill a hole in bulk head at bottom to feed wires through to pump ( and controller if using one ), I have my pump screwed into bulk head next to were wires come through, and my di bottles are down the far side ( behind driver ) of the tank, fits just nice

Hi Marty,  how is the decision going regarding a d/i only, or the automated 4-stage R/O system?

I think from our original call we was suggesting an r/o would work our cheaper for you over time compared to a d/i only system, especially with you tap tds.

Let me know if you have any other questions regarding our range - Andy  :)
