Five years on the circuit, started with pole system.  Now all the rage seems to be the hotwater system.  I can't afford the ionics £14000 grand all singing and dancing system.  Friend has upgraded to hot using a hot portable shower system used to clean horses.  Runs off gas bottles.  Seems to do the trick, just would love to get the collective ideas on what has worked for you guys and gals.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Jack :)

Have a Google for "L5 water heater". I tried it in the search box here and it doesn't seem to bring up the discussions, so also try "water heater" in the search box here..then read to your hearts content.. buy a flue, a gas mask, extra insurance, fire proof jacket, oxygen mask, Co2 detector and a fencing mask and you're good to go !!!    ;D

Wouldn't say hot water is all the rage on here, its a simple business question, do you think it will make you more money
or make your working day easier ?
For me the answer was no on both counts, if I was getting a lot of hard to remove crud on the glass then I may have given it a try.

If you live in colder parts it is nice to use in winter but I haven't found it to clean so much better that I want to keep it going all year. In fact there are a number of threads on hear where windies have had the gear removed from their kit and gone back to cold.

hot water is a luxury and not needed but it adds a bit of comfort during the colder months and it does help with  dirty first cleans, add on jobs, snail trails, birdmuck, pollen spots, etc.

also it can stop your water freezing in your hose on colder days and keep you working.

i much prefer working with hot water than cold water.the hose is easier to manage. :)
price higher/work harder!

That makes it a necessity in some instances then Daz, if you wouldn’t be able to work otherwise.

You can clean horses with it too but they get a bit giggly with the wrong brush.

Here is another thread that may help you decide what type of portable water heater to get. http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=204832.msg1806344#msg1806344

Personally I would stay well clear of ecotemp L5 6 lpm type water heaters as I found them utter crap compared to the fatstar 8lpm lpg water heater I use now.

Smurf do you get any issues with the flame being blown out with that 8L job?

Does it need a flue?

Whilst using hot I tend to leave the van side door slightly open so no I don't need a flue.
I’ve never had the carbon monoxide censor fitted on the bulkhead in the back or in the cab go off by the exhaust fumes either.

If you just want hot every now and again I would use an L10 heater with gas bottle,if you want to be able to get in the van every morning flick a switch and get hot water with no hassle buy a diesel heater. Now all my wiring is correct for it if it went wrong I'd buy another tomorrow,£3000 and going nearly 11 years later you don't need to be good at maths to know it works out pennies to run one.

If you don't need scalding hot then fit an immersion £60

Thanks  :)

If you have used a webasto type heater for 11 years without forking out loads on servicing it all I can say you are very lucky indeed. Ask Lance from sunshine windows what he thinks of them.  ::)roll

My heater is the second heater they supplied I have never ever serviced it in any way shape or form the only thing I've ever done is change the internal hoses that's it,as far as the wiring goes all my battery wiring was the wrong diameter so the charge from the split charger was fluctuating turning the heater on and off over quiet a long period resulting in me changing battery's like I was a rep for Duracell lol. All wiring changed a couple of weeks ago and battery's charged and its back to working like new resulting in the water being even hotter than it was before.but as far as servicing goes I've never touched it nor anyone else.
