Brexit challenge for window cleaners
« on: October 18, 2016, 06:12:47 am »
We now have the world's worst performing currency. It's pretty inevitable that prices will soon start to rise.

Difficult times and choices are ahead. I reckon now is the time to get in a hefty price rise before anyone else does.

I have noticed companies rising prices allready .
The company that sells pure water in my area up 20%
My daughters nursery cost up 10%
Bank charges for business bank up around 10%
Mobile phone tariff has gone up.

Probably others but this is just off the top of my head.
I will be putting my prices up by Christmas .

Yes let's all follow Unilever's lead, that worked out well ::)roll
Sorry George but screw all the scare mongering.
The pound was bound to drop after the referendum. What happens when Mr Trump becomes US president and immediately goes about setting up a trade agreement with the UK, ahead of the EU....The pound will see record rises.

Well Trump has a mountain to climb as he's 10 points behind, but leaving fantasy aside there will be inflation. Fuel will be up 5p a litre within a few weeks. We are a service economy and most of what we buy is imported.

I was going to leave my prices for another year. Probably still going to. Leaving the EU has made no noticeable difference to my business yet.

And as the referendum also highlighted, the polls aren't always right.

Fuel prices were already going to rise after Russia's agreement with opec recently, regardless of what the pound was doing.
Fuel is a fluctuating commodity, prices will always rise and fall.
If you enforce big price rise across the board now based on a current weak pound, will you decrease your prices in the near future if, for whatever reason, the pound suddenly rises!

Now is the worst possible time for price rises. The media attention to Unilever has drawn the public's attention towards greedy, unjustified rises in uncertain economic times.
The government must be working on plans to stabilise the pound and the economy to leave it so long to trigger article 50.

Just got back from Oslo, everything here is super cheap.
Maybe interest rate changes will have a bigger affect on window cleaners, than leaving EU?

Target Brexit voters and you will be alright, its only remain voters who will be spending all their money on stockpiling
food/clothes and reinforcing their roofs to protect them from the falling sky. lol.
Its swings and roundabouts some will gain from a weak pound and others will lose out but one things for certain, window cleaning
will always be such a hateful job that people will gladly pay to have somebody to do it for them.

It will be interesting to see what impact it will have on the price on items such as window cleaning poles and gutter vacs etc. Speaking for ourselves we have had some price increases in materials but nothing too major at the moment.

Price rises are driven by the market. Unilever has to pay more for its raw materials. I guess they are just spreading the increase across the range. Just wait until inflation hits and your money starts to be worth less. It's either put up prices or see your earnings shrink.

I dunno - it's all cyclical isn't it?

3 years ago Energy prices were sky high and diesel was 1.40 a litre. 3 months ago Diesel was £1.06, now it's £1.11. But three years ago I was getting 4% on a 4 year ISA, now I can't get 2%. But shares are close to an all time high as are house prices.

With me it swings and roundabouts and having a spread of energy types to use in my home and a wide spread of assets for retirement I neither seem to get the highs or lows others enjoy/suffer.

Diesel is the one direct thing I can do little about unless I go the make your own  route - which I considered as it was knocking on £1.40 plus. But in truth my round is so compact a tank lasts me a month. It's my Mrs. doing school runs and gadding about in her car that costs more. In 4 years she has done 52,000 miles and in 4.5 years I have done 25,000 in the van!

Health is the key for a window cleaner. I need to invest more effort in maintaining that really.

It's a game of three halves!

Soap isn't for internal use. Hope it was on a rope so easy to retrieve.

Do less windows for the same price. The customer pays the same and you miss a few windows.
You're both laughing.
But don't keep missing the same windows or they'll get very dirty.

Just keep your head down, look after your customers.

Keep your pricing realistic.

No more latest smartphones for me, ill just get a cheapo one. I actually resent paying £60 a month for the latest samsung products, my last phone was a galaxy s6 edge, flipping thing was so slippery it kept sliding off the dashboard and eventually ended up smashed, i got the latest tablet phone too and that is rubbish its been off to repair 3 times. And then theirs the wifes flagship phone too at £50 odd a month.

£110 a month for what? Tell you we are being mugged by this never ending marketing machine, and i fell for it hook line and sinker. Not anymore, budget phones for me this year.

Priorities for me are changing this year.
