Di vessels on top of tank - will they still work ?
« on: October 09, 2016, 08:14:58 am »
Re organising my van and will be fitting a 500 flat for reasons of getting everything in.

Ideally I would like to mount my double di's on top of the tank along with the reels - any reason why they wouldn't work being higher than the water in the tank ?

Thinking about it logically if a 5 lpm 100 psi pump can push water through 100 odd metres of hose 5 storey up a pole it should have no problem pushing water through di tanks sat on a lay flat tank surely?

One thing I have been noticing is that sometimes there is resin in the tank. No idea how it happens (it only seems to happen in the connect which is the only vehicle I have with this configuration), I thought it was maybe a siphon happening but that would mean the resin would have to travel backwards through the pump then through the strainer which (I think) would be impossible.

You can fill your van tank with resin if after refilling the di tank you connect the flow up the wrong way. Thats if the pump is before  the di. Oops! Been there, done that ;D

Maybe it has a faulty riser tube?

Shouldn't be possible with my set up. Tank - strainer - pump - DI - DI - reels. Can't see how the resin can get passed the pump and strainer even if the bottle is in backwards.

So I take it you fill the tank with tap water then as you are running a di only system?

No we have an RO with a large storage tank. We pump the purified water to the tank (in van), the DI is so we can fill up anywhere if needed, usually the water going through the DI is <10ppm

I'm baffled too then soupy mind it don't take much thesedays  ;D
Is it defo resin beads in the tank or could it be just fine particles of dirt/algae or maybe delamination of the transfer hose etc being transferred into the tank?

So if you don't use di before the tank during the ro procces and just use it to polish off after the pump to the hose reel how the hell does it get back into the tank as that makes no sense at all.  ???

Have you tried cleaning the tank out properly with say a pressure washer to get all the resin residue out. Then refilled it to see what happen if it comes back or not?

Makes no difference where they are mounted the water draws up from the bottom of the tank and as said your pumping it 300ft before it sees your brush.
