Van broken into
« on: September 29, 2016, 01:23:36 pm »

Right on my drive under my nose. Cut a hole pulled a lever and straight in. Never took a thing cos there are no power tools. So got to try and combat this so it doesn't happen again. Gonna get cctv, better security lights, and a magnetic sign to put on the panel showing its window cleaning kit not power tools.
Tried second hand door route but no joy so it's a new door £1450 insurance job😡😡
2/3 days lost while it's fixed all for nothing. Makes you blood boil doesn't it. 5 vans in same area done the same night.
Be careful guys yo your security before the gits get yours!!
I stopped and told several van owners and without exception they all had a story of theft to tell!!

A couple of months back i had back window put through, took nothing as didnt know value of wfp equipment n setup i suppose. I did similar, wait till after an event and now i have cctv cameras front n back, signs on van n van windows saying no equipment/tools left in van. Hopefully nothing else will happen.
If you work close to your van, could you not gaffer tape it down to cover hole as well and continue working?

Fiberglass/ Isopon the hole sand it down and then give it a coat of white paint, put a advertising wrap over it and
you will never see the repair, job done for a lot less than £1450.

Lol
However my comment was a get me by, whilst waitingbfor new door. Taking it that hes gone down insurance route, as he said it will be a couple of days of work. A quick fix until replacement door sorted and can still work.
If not going down that route then next best thing, seank comment

That's horrible. Seen Ford transits and connects with the side door pulled down.

I have spent a lot of time and money on making my van as hard as possible to steal. Now thinking dead locks are the next thing to install :(

Thanks for your reply.
Seems the best route to go down to protect the kit. I have been able to carry on working, just looks a mess. Could've got the job repair cheaper but the vans in good nik and the body repair guy said that they can't guarantee a patch or weld cos it's been exposed to the elements and rust is certain to show up. So this time I'll get it done professionally and then prepare my house with the same as you - cctv etc
Pain tho to go to all that trouble just for stupid thieves grrrrr!!

Thinking seriously about deadlocks, but where I live, I can park the van close to a the back gates so the back doors can't be opened, and close to the side wall so the sliding door can't be opened. Doing this every night now.

That rip can be welded over with a plate  :)
Sympathise with you, to**ers  to do that.
Van alarmed and a camera, house alarmed, cctv with panning cameras operated by phone so can check even when away from home.  Too many thieving gits around.

Hi windowswashed, I'm thinking about getting a cctv system for our house, yours with panning cameras operated by phone
sounds interesting, would you mind telling me what make it is.

Swann panning dome cameras so it's not obvious where the camera is viewing, Got one on the front/side and one on  the back/side so van covered at night. Got a few fixed cameras here and there.  Link cameras to phone apps with passwords to monitor cctv whilst away. Cameras detect movement and take a snapshot of best face image frame.
House alarm automatically alerts with text or phone  up to ten numbers including the police if set that way.
I'm very security conscious after someone tried to break into a previous van I had and when a neighbour in my last place got broken into in the very early jhours of darkness. Forgot to mention get a recording box with plenty of memory and back it up elsewhere, i.e. to the cloud for 24 hr storage so it records everything  and loops, mines rigged up to a solar panel so it doesn't matter if the electric goes off aa it's still recording.  Ex army so safety and security conscious like you wouldn't believe.

Thanks very much for your advice, sounds like you've got your Home & Van well covered, I've already got a similar Home
alarm system which texts you if theres been a breach, letting you know which door or window, plus you can arm or disarm
the alarm from your phone, but i will definitely look into cctv system you have.

You wont stop them getting in but you can make it hard for them to take.
I have a mk7 Transit and they are so easy to take. You can but keys on ebay that fit any lock. You can but a device that plugs into port and off you go. As many transits as you like for less than £100.
The police said 50 transits went in the Bradford area in 1 month alone.
We should all take our poles inside, but were all too lazy to do it

Had my OBD port moved and disabled. Anti pick lock fitted, pedal box as well.
