Just a query, lets say you have 2 employees in 1 van, lets just say doing £300 per day on domestics WFP for arguments sake. If i was to go out with them so would be no wage for 3rd man as i am the boss, doing a bit of  trad work, writing receipts, winding up hoses, etc, how much extra work in money do yous think we would get done per day? I know its not going to be a great deal but just wanted to know this as i have  2 vans on road at the minute , 1 full time, 1 part time and was maybe thinking would i get all work into 1 van? Anybody else experience in this.

I new someone in a 2 man team with a 3rd man that came along to wipe sills trad doors or write tickets,it was a waste of time in some cases by the time he'd done the ticket had a quick sipp of tea they had done the house lol. I started with a bloke with me tradding bottoms while I poled the tops,in the end by the time he'd done a few Windows downstairs I was finished round the backs and 2 sides. I would say if your ever gonna do 3 in a van one of em needs to use a backpack or it will start looking like a BT exchange across the roads and pavements with hoses.

I can't see how it would increase turnover to much you should know what 2 men 1 van can do in a day

I do know what they can do each day.  Its just the running cost of 2 vans (HP by the way) when i could maybe fit all work into 1 van, think i would be saving £500 per month by not having 2nd van, but not sure how much more i could make per day with 3 in 1 van. All our work is up to date each month with 2 vans and could do with more, just a bit worried would have to much for 1 van. Would be nice to keep the quality of work at it best too if i was there.

So I guess what you are really saying reading between the lines that you don't have enough profitable work/turnover to warrant keeping two vans on the road?

2 vans 2 in 1 and 1 in the other you'll need loads and loads of work and customers that don't mind you being bang on time

I know of one guy who does exactly that (my mate used to work for him). I think they had to hit 350 a day trad to get their wages, he payed them rubbish money and he just did the driving and collecting etc. At the time he did ok because my mate and the no.2 were really good. Then they both left because of his stinky attitude and now he has a couple of monkeys. He's lost loads due to cr4p work. He was getting quite old so I think that's why he took on that 3rd role.

If you have a big payload and can carry extra water get a backpack for the 3rd man. You also need compact work for 3 men in 1 van to be viable, it can be done tho.

Go for it there's no reason why you cant have two wfp and one on ground floor traditional working from one van, as has already been said it will work better on compact work.
I think the main argument for one man one van is two men working together distract each other and  slack off which wont apply when the boss is there to keep them in check.
Work out a system so that every man is optimised and rotate the work  to keep all up to speed on both methods  and not have somebody feeling hard done by.

3 bods in one van? Tripping over themselves. But if it's the Boss out with two men would:

1. See that (relatively low) £300 increase to £400 just because he is there organising them, tidying the van, reeling in hoses etc and doing paperwork and blading the odd door and wiping sills, yakking to custies.

2. If quiet he can get more work by canvassing and making the round more compact thus increasing the turnover.

But ... Could he be doing better than £100 a day doing something else? Also,  a van with say 1000kg/1200kg payload with a 650L would need to be 1200kg/1400kg with a 800L payload for him, extra water used.

I mean, you just need an extra 100kg to carry the body but if you increase turnover you will need more water.

Thought had crossed my mind,maybe at a later date, Plan was to have 1 in each van doing 200 per day but is a lot of custys in a not to big of a populated area and was thinking quality over quantity!
