Anyone fancy a builders clean in Northallerton?
« on: September 27, 2016, 03:35:29 pm »

I have a rental website that was cancelled by the owner - but its still live (Up for sale if anyone is interested) and emails are coming in to me - got this one today - if anyone in the area is interested just give her a call/email:

We are due to carry out the builders clean on a new Marks and Spencer's simply food store in Northallerton. The store is moving from the one on the high street to just around around the corner near the Asda, we are due to start on site on Sunday 2nd October and would like a quote for the internal and external glazing to be cleaned.

If you are interested in providing a quote for the works then please contact me by phone or at alisha.dennett@limiserv.co

Why don't you forward them to the owner?

I think... If you stop renting a website, you lose any future jobs from it as the site can be rented to someone else.... Otherwise Nat would end up as an unpaid secretary which is fair enough imo

I've never heard the term rental before, but I have a site that I pay monthly for with Avondhu. Is mine a rental site? It just makes me a little uncomfortable that when I cancel the site and move it elsewhere, what will happen?

Read above 8weekly! Lack of respect to his rental customers by the sounds of it posting it for randoms who dont pay to rent from him instead of giving it to who has been paying to rent.

I rent from avondhu also , I don't own the site from my understanding so if I cancel the monthly payments then in effect, iv lost 'my' website. You are given the option to buy it if you wanted to own it

bad form that is , holding onto the name and selling it.  for all we know he could hav upped the price and the "renter" was backed into a corner ,wanted out. but wanted his name but had no way of changin easily to a new host

iv heard of this sharp practice before

Mick Kent - Would you keep cleaning someone's windows after they stop paying you "out of respect" for them until the next window cleaner starts?  ??? Seems like an odd perspective on how to do business.

This particular site was cancelled by the owner recently - and it was cancelled quite early on in the rental, long before it had paid for the time I spent building it. Until it gets bought out or I decide not to renew the domain, all queries come to me & I do what I want with then. Usually I'd know someone in the general area & forward it to them direct - in this case I couldn't think of anyone off the top of my head so I put it up here instead...

@8weekly - This only happens when a site is cancelled really early. If the site has been up and running a while I consider that its paid for itself & thats it,... but if someone asks me to spend a week or two of my life building a website & cancels it after one month payment (Its rare, but it has happened) then I will re-brand & re-sell the site to recoup my losses.

All pay-monthly customers have the option to buy out their site completely at a reduced rate if they want to.
And to be clear - there were no price increases & there never are. Once you're signed up the price remains the same for the lifetime of the website.

Not at all but websites and cleaning windows are 2 different things, id drop and replace as costs me time and effort to do a clean! he used to rent it from you so could still be a future renter or buyer yet now he wont as you are taking the p out of him without any respect and you obviously have a bee in your bonnet to have to put a post on ciu regarding how he is an ex renter and posting the clients details up on an open forum?
It wouldnt  cost you any time graft or sweat to forward it onto him as you will earn from the website again when you fine a new renter would you not?
Anyway we are all different, maybe im too soft.

You're taking me up wrong Mick.

Firstly, I've not mentioned the web address or name of the company - I've no issue with the former owner & no ill will towards him at all. My only motivation was that this job might be useful to someone on here.

As far as the website goes - I rented a site - the owner knew the deal from day one & was happy with it. Unfortunately he had some bad luck & his business is now gone, so far as I know he declared bankruptcy. He sent me an email last month apologising and asking me to cancel the website, which I did.

Renting websites is a big risk for me - For a £35 a month job I will spend the best part of a week working on the project,.. and I cannot run a business on £35 a week! That is why all rental deals work this way until they pass the point where they've covered my weeks work.

I'd don't feed trolls - but I will tell you I'm not Irish, so he obviously was talking about someone else.

Fair do's I'm just being nosey and argumentative as usual but you did post the potential clients details up on this post which is odd if you already know of someone who could take it on(the ex renter) and as you say you have no ill towards the ex renter so shouldnt be an issue.
Hope you get a buyer or new renter soon.

To be fair Nathaniel makes his money from designing really good value websites. Many of them on a pay by month setup. In this case he's got a customer who has for some reason stopped paying for the website. It doesn't make sense to me that he would continue to give the non payer the advantages of the website.. It's almost like cleaning one of our window clients for free after they stop paying us because they don't want the service..

@ Nat

Many window cleaners - me included - say always to charge more for the first clean. Perhaps you need to charge more for the initial set up? Recoup a bit from the time wasters.

So instead of say £35 a month from the start you say £100 set up to include first month's fee  then £35 a month.

That sort of thing?
It's a game of three halves!

@geri cheek

If you wish to make an allegation then please do it accurately and civilly without nationalistic overtones (and preferably legibly).  This will be your only warning.

Yes - it does.
The first owner of that company/website was Jeff Temperley - I did the website, he was happy - he sold his business & moved to America, and I've build websites for his American businesses since.

The new owner of Big Red Monkey asked me to build a new website which I did. After about 10 days work, when the project was 95% complete & about to go "live" he got the hump about something (I don't think he understood the process of making the site live & thought I was trying to take ownership of his domain, which I most certainly was not) and he cancelled on me without explanation and without payment.
HE NEVER PAID ME A PENNY, so I don't think he has any right to complain!
