After more years window cleaning than I can remember and not advertised since the first year I started as never since needed too.
My question is my lad who has worked with me for past 5 years is starting to pick his own work up now which he does one or two days a week then the rest with me.
I am thinking of sign writing the vans in a view to maybe pulling in some more work for him or is it a waste of money.
Has anybody found this to make a difference or is what I think " the good old door knocking better.

i paid £500 for signwriting and back doors vinyl wrapped when i bought my current van(around 2 and a half years ago now) and its been money well spent.ive picked up lots of jobs just by being seen out and about.

this week alone ive picked up 4 jobs(1 window cleaning job,3 add ons(2 f/s/g cleans and a conny roof) all by them seeing my van(i have my list of add ons on the back doors).

plus it makes you stand out and look more professional IMO.

go for it. :)
price higher/work harder!

it WILL make a difference for him,   get him noticed around his competitors,     they then know what gear he may have in his van,    a signed van does stand out , it will get you noticed.   people will know hes genuine and get more public view. and look more professional.              Pros & Cons.     if your vans secure enough get it done.
Get some CCTV  facing van and drive etc.

For a fraction of the cost, ive used magnetized signs on my van. Initially from vista print, which as above comments state, it gets you noticed and ive had many enquiries/jobs from people taking number. Once lol, from a driver behind me stuck at train crossings and yes it was job related not my drivingx lol.
However, im going for two large magnetized signs from signs4van.co.uk. the large ones will cover the side panels of van. I have opted for this as within next 2 years be hoping to purchase a newer if not new van and i can simply transfer them. (Cause im a tight yorkshire man lol)

When I had mine done I was a bit shocked at the price but the man said "Don't worry about the cost just think of the free advertising."
Although he may have been saying that just to make the sale, nevertheless he was right!!!
I see loads of plain vans and think if someone wants a window cleaner how are they going to call him?

Nathan magnetic signs tend to get used by travellers or jacks of all trades personally I would opt for
the permanent one, certainly on your new van..
Not saying they don't work for you but they would certainly put some off making the permanent ones better value
long term.

it works weather you spend 300-3000 pounds , we spend around 3000 on our wraps for the carpet cleaning vans and they pay for themselves in around 12 months , our window cleaning vans are around 600 ish and they pay for themselves in about 4 months

what you need to learn is that , sign writing is good if done right but can look very poor if its not , so the cheapest is not always the best nor is long lists of writing so spend a lot of time picking what you want and like

One advantage I found was that even though some people aren't happy with their present shiner they are reluctant to move
encase they end up with somebody who will clean for six months and then quit leaving them with nobody.
Seeing that I had sign written the van gave the impression that I was in it for the long haul therefore making me less of a flight
risk in the eyes of the customer.

Hi Nathan,   how much are you paying for the larger signs?  Be good to get a pic and maybe some feedback when you've got them. ?

Had my Van sign written, 4 years ago, i get work from it every week, I've had people walk up take a picture with their
phones just to get the number, because they didn't have pen & paper on them,  where ever your working its there advertising
your business for you,  Sign written van plus website is the best thing i ever did for the business.

Interesting. Are there a lack of reliable window cleaners where you are then? I'd imagine in that environment it ought to be pretty easy to build a successful business but you say not?

I have two magnetic signs from signs4vans - £38 for the pair. I can highly recommend them. It has brought me in plenty of business & gets me recognised in the area. Also if I use the van for personal use in an area where I do not window clean I just remove the signs - this saves me from getting unwanted 'phone calls.

I had the van sign written a couple of years ago, almost immediately a local competitor had all their vans copied in almost the same style and colours  which was really annoying. I still feel I got benefit from it though. However six months ago I had a local sign writer put a red border around the existing signage to distinguish my van. The phone hasn't stopped ringing since. Yes, sign writing your van pays for itself. ;)

Thats good to know. I looked on their site the other day and currently not taking any more orders just at the moment. But im going for the 48 ×24 inch size at £90.

But reason for quoting ur post, i forgot to do same when i was visiting some friends. Day after phone went enquiring of a quote, i apologized and said i dont work in that area.....she very rudely accused me of lying because she saw my van there. She wouldnt except the fact i was just visiting friends.

Get it done. I get comments now and again on how neat and professional my van looks. I'm up for a bigger van soon and that will also get the same Robbo treatment.  ;D
