WaterWorks Electric Reel Through Floor
« on: September 22, 2016, 05:43:49 pm »
Help please !! I have bought a waterworks electric reel and want the hose go through the floor.
Anybody using the waterwork sucurity pulleys?
they look hard to fit and are quite pricey.... I see on the video below
( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMYxKpryYOc
The man has the COXREELS floor rollers but they are powder coated and look a bit cheap ie plastic rollers (available from Gardiner).
The other option being perhaps winch reels but this seems to be more cutting etc.
YOUR THOUGHTs MOST WELCOME !

Maybe you could adapt this idea.

Yes i saw that....spent a good hour trying to find a roller that secures from the top.

The waterworks roller that does is £60+VAT in comparison full stainless Fairleads is £30 delivered !!!

Also if you fit a winch type to the floor the cut out has to be wider than the cox reel hole which i think can be fitted without too much trouble to the floor pan.

Are the COX rollers still working ok ?? Signs of wear etc.

They are both just about knackered and 2 and half years of abuse. The van works 5-6 days a week.

Tim did 2 vans this way. His first van was a Berlingo where he cut a small section out of the rear bumper in the center.

If it wasn't successful with that van then he wouldn't have bothered with the second van and tried something else.

He used heavy duty fairleads on the lower unit and packed them with grease before he fitted them.  One of the things you need to be vary of is to make sure the gap between the lower and upper rollers are wide enough to accommodate your hose.

I quite like the look of these.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roller-Fairlead-STAINLESS-STEEL-No-More-Rusty-Rollers-Winch-Fairlead-/141065080402?hash=item20d8224e52:m:m---fq2yBk6XLC2BaZ05C3w

A 22mm gap between the rollers is more than enough.

One of the local lads also tried to this idea but chose to save money and bought cheap fairleads for under the bumper - they didn't work.

I think the idea of having the system centralised will help to keep the hose rollers a little more clean as they aren't in the direct line of fire from the rear wheels. You will loose the spare wheel which will have to be brought into the van. I wouldn't get involved with aerosol puncture repair kits as it means a new tyre after these kits have been used.

The downside to where Tim fitted his hose reel is that there is a lot of wasted space around the reel that can't be used for other stuff if the hose reel is mounted on the van's floor.

Unfortunately Tim hasn't been on this forum for a few years now so we don't know the longevity of this setup. He did have back issues so maybe he doesn't clean windows any more.

Doing just fine really. I'm actually still using these same rollers, just a squirt of oil now and then on them. Working fine.

That's really good to know on both accounts.

You were one of the few on here in the early days that had experience that I personally related to and inspired me, so when you 'disappeared' I noticed.

I remember you saying once the reason for the fixed reel conversion was that that your back was suffering lifting that weight in and out of the van. When people disappear off the website they either have discovered there is a better life other than window cleaning forums or they have given up w/cleaning.

Your conversion is one that I keep coming back to. I think the secret of the success of them is the big rollers on the lower fairlead. I shared this with another cleaner locally who opted to save money on the lower fairlead, and the system just didn't work.
My problem is that I wheel my hose reel to the back of peoples homes 2 or 3 times as day. Pulling the hose from the hose reel at the van takes so much extra time. It just seems the nature of the customers I have. Maybe I also need to dump these complicated ones and replace with easier ones. Or maybe I have to just carry a wheel hose reel on the van for those customers.

I'm also pleased that cheaper electric reels are becoming more ready available and at a reasonable price. I quite like those Proloc units but not having a reel lock is a bit of a draw back. Of course, the one available from Gardiners looks the business but it way out of my price range. What we really need is a unit which self layers like Nat Jones started to work on.

BTW, did you ever put a different exhaust vent for your heater on the van, or did you manage to get that mushroom unit to work in the end?

Thanks.
