just lost a dumb ass customer

Just had a phone call from a customer ive cleaned today. Ranting how ive not cleaned windows n posted  a card. I asked what problem was and that im in area tomoro and can rectify. A window has bird muck on. I asked him if its at all posible the bird could have done that after the clean, but no how silly of me to suggest such a thing, im  clearly trying to get away with it.
So hes cancelled and said ok, of course my answer was, tho keeping it very professional.........tho at times, do you find it hard to be professional about it and say what you really would like to say or do you bite ur tongue like i do?

Did he pay you ? Iv had a couple of messers in the past use that excuse to refuse payment.

I lost one today, a bungalow,  he said he's going to do his own windows from now on.  For feed back I asked if there was a problem with the last clean, " no there were no problems, it's just  I've bought a pole and brush from the supermarket that allows the water from the garden hose to run through it, so I will be cleaning them the very same way as you cleaned them" to which  I replied " yes, apart from the fact that you are going to use tap water to clean your windows, good luck with that"!

I had one "lady part" that said he was going to use his pressure washer to do them from now on.  I just told him it was a cracking idea

I had one a few years back who was going to use a pressure washer with a barrel of water filled from a Brita filter,
miserable (moded; language, Timothy!) was worth a fortune.

Years ago I had similar, got a really nasty and aggressive text from a custy ( a criminal lawyer don't ya know ) getting all high and mighty with me over birds mess on a window. He  suggested he may find someone else but was reluctant to because I cleaned for the previous owners - reading between the lines sounded like I was supposed to suck up his superiority over me and be grateful. Went round the following day and spoke to his wife to see what the issue was. She couldn't apologise enough , said he'd been in a bad mood on getting home because the cleaners had broken something, oh and as for the birds mess it was a big fresh dollop, something there was no way I could have missed. I never went back.
For a while after I wish I had been a bit more assertive and told him what I thought of being spoken to in such a way, had it happened now I probably would.  :)

I've had the washing them with the pressure washer excuse before, obviously there was no appreciation of having the job done by a professional.

Recently a customer got stroppy in a text and told me not to come back because "I had made such a mess of their back yard".
The reason being their back garden was basically the dog toilet, I hated every visit to the house because it was a complete minefield of the stuff. Kids toys in the middle of the poop of course (do these dog owners care more for their pets than their kids health?). The clean before last I ended up with dog mess over my gloves, trousers legs and hoses.
Anyway on my last visit I decided to take ten minutes to lift all the offending material with a coal shovel and leave it in a neat little pile therefore enabling me to do my job with out weaving a path through it.
And this was the cause of the stroppy text to cancel, how dare I tidy up after their mutt.
I pity the kids who have these backyards for play areas.

Glad to get rid of it!

Personally  i wouldn't of cleaned their pets mess up, i would ask them if they could make sure the garden or yard
is clear of mess before i arrive  on the booked day, if they  get stroppy with that request, they can look for someone
else,   anyway they did you a favour by cancelling, you don't need these Crap jobs, pardon the pun  ;D

You have the right approach Lal, I now do the same. There is plenty of work out there without these types of incidents spoiling the day  ;D

sometimes we'll make mistakes and do something that's not ideal, but sometimes, like in these instances its a misunderstanding between what the customer thinks has happened and what we think has happened. there's usually a logical sensible reason for the misunderstanding.

i find it a hard habit to keep, but i try to be as transparent and honest wth customers as i can. most people are very reasonable when you get down to it.

you'll always get someone who is too much trouble to deal with every now and again, but plain honesty  usually does the trick

This is true and if we know it we ought to make allowances. I've got one old bird who is thoroughly nuts, stark staring bonkers, she's a fruitcake, completely batty. I wish I had more tolerance with her but every time I do her place by the time I leave I want to strangle the old bat.

Seriously.

Apart from her there's a small old folks estate up the road where I live - I do a handful of the bungalows on it. They all get an extra bit of consideration, can't help but feel for them all. They're old, on their last legs and they all struggle in one way or another.
