gutter vac recommendations
« on: September 18, 2016, 11:29:24 am »
hi guys decided to start looking for a gutter vac system as winters on its way and this year ive had a lot through the summer for some reason and dont fancy going up the ladders on those blustery winter days anymore although the gutter pro tools have been cracking!
thinking 3000w vac with carbon poles.
ive seen this set up on ebay but wondered if theyre full carbon poles and do they stick with them not clamping together?
any advice or recomendations would be great, i have a budget of around £500-£700ish.

Those poles are only 30% carbon fibre (70% fibreglass so will be very bendy just like window cleaning poles). To my knowledge only ourselves and Grippa are 100% carbon fibre. Speaking as a manufacturer and we also do gutter cleaning the tapered poles can occasionally stick together but so long as you keep the joins as clean as possible it's not often to be honest.

I bought that package. We're very happy with it. Excellent customer service when we had a pole split. Not sure about the carbon content, but it certainly does not bend and doesn't feel heavy.

Thanks for replying guys, can I ask Nick is there much difference in sucking ability etc between a 1600w vac and a 3000w vac to make it worthwhile paying for the bigger vac?

I know a lot of people will shout me down for this!! We ourselves use a 1250 watt machine (there's videos on our website) and have used up to 4200 watt machines. To be totally honest we've never noticed a difference, the 3000 watt machines are slightly quicker but they take longer to set up and overall we've found we take the same amount of time. Another thing we've found and we've 2 jobs alone this week is access, we couldn't have got a 3000 watt machine through the garages to the job but our little machine we just carried it through.

That's exactly why I'm thinking about buying the smaller vac pal, due to size and room in the van.
Those big 3-4000w vacs with the framed wheels look bloody big lol but as long as the 1600w vacs had enough sucking power then I'd probably go with one of them!
As your a guttervac seller yourself I'd definately listen to somone as yourself!!
One more question about poles, would a 30ft be long enough for most general homes and stretching over conservatory's etc?

That's what we found, we started out with a 2400 Numatic but found it a pain and started experimenting and got to where we are today! 30 ft will easily do a 3 storey building, we normally do it with 25ft but allow for ground dropping away etc 30ft will cover you for all the work you'd want to do.

I would be cautious. Nick said the poles in the link would be bendy. They are not.

This is what people have told us on the phone and seeing YouTube videos of that kit working.

We've had the Numatic 2400w with cyclonic entry boosting suction by 25%.

(Super light Gardiner) Poles from Oliver at Grippatank. Look no further for these, occasionally after a while they will lock together so we have a clamp handy should this happen.

The vac is a great machine, and never let us down but it does have a ally filter that needs reguläre cleaning to ensure motor has enough air intake.

The numbers given out by manufacturers are pretty worthless.
KPA is kilopascals which is a 25% of inches of waterlift. The 1250 we use is rated at 15 KPA by the maker, we always test for water lift and the 1250 is actually 90" water lift which is 22.5 KPA.
We also have an airspeed jig and for effective gutter cleaning, 1200 watts of airspeed is enough airspeed combined with 80" water lift is plenty.
We had the "cyclonic" entry nu-matic and the front entry and  we never found any difference.

Not sure about other makes but we actually had a die made at an aluminium mill for own poles.

How powerful a generator would I need to run a 3500 - 4000 watt vac cleaning at 30ft? Been thinking about adding guttervac cleaning but don't want to use customers electric.

Thanks

As nick will tell (as posted in another thread) the little vacs struggle over 2 stories high requiring weed hooks and the like - they have their place as low end entry systems for lightly blocked gutters but go for a more powerful system if you want to do serious gutter  clearing - customer recommendations a better guide than salesmen
We use 6.5 kva genny for the Omnivac which is now 7 years old
