tv exposure
« on: July 25, 2016, 08:38:08 pm »

What would you be willing to pay to have your business name or web address exposed on tv ?

Simple question?  No !   Obviously it does depend on the amount of exposure, channel and many other factors.

So I will give you a little more detail,  the exposure is your website on full view on a professional boxers attire, that is shorts, vest ,robe and all other paraphernalia.  the fight takes place on a line up of boxing this coming Saturday live on sky sports.

Not only live tv, but other exposure   ie. photos in local papers, links on the fighters website etc etc , including in the price is 2 tickets to all of his fights during the next year, the exposure on all of his attire is also for a year.

Why am I asking ?

I have sponsored a local boxer and am interested to get peoples views.

Of course their is that possibility, not that matters to much .

From a purely financial piont I doubt it would be a good idea, the amount you spend would be better  spent on traditional marketing, but I often find these things are more about supporting the sportman and helping them out rather than financial gain.

How much Information Could you get on a boxer shorts? And would it be readable? It's not like you have a Logo like coke a cola that is instantly recognisable

Hi Mike,

I am inclined to agree with you on the points you make, having said that it is my web address going on all attire in a prominent position.
I was offered the chance because the boxer is the son of a good friend of mine at a fraction of the normal cost , the reason a prominent local company pulled out after investing  all of its budget in the "city of culture"  which you will be well aware of .

I don't expect to get work directly from this, I do expect clicks to my website , now that must be good for rankings !!

I hope you have your company name written across the back of his shorts, so that when he's face down on the canvas you are still getting exposure......... ;D

Firstly, clicks to your site is going to do nothing to your website rankings.

Even if people see your details on the chaps shorts, on a photo in a newspaper etc etc I doubt people would even take notice to it. When you watch match of the day, do you take notice of the brands that are behind the players when they get interviewed?

If you where a sports brand for example an protein shake brand, or a seller of boxing gear etc then this would be a good opportunity.

Just my 2cents.

i would say it wont work at all.

Can imagine george sitting down to watch boxing on sky sports, missus pipe up "ooh we must get our carpets done"..

george : what?

ethel : carpets, that boxer has carpet cleaning advertised on his shorts

george : not bothered love im watching the fight

ethel : could do with our carpets cleaned mind

george : sigh

30 mins later..

george : what were you saying about carpets? they could do with a clean like

ethel : i know! did you get the website address?

george : no, cant remember what it was now

ethel : rewind it!

george : cant love we got rid of sky plus, this box you cant do that

ethel : oh, ill just google a cleaner

george : ay theyll be plenty about

And so you never get the call, but some other cleaner probably will somewhere in the country

links on the fighters website probably wont be worth much since its not a relevant site and probably not a high authority domain
a mention on sky website or a well known website new blog would be though

Your missing the point ,
I don't expect people to decide to have the carpets cleaned whilst watching boxing,

The point is my name is out there,  on local tv interviews, in the papers ,magazines, etc  and not just for 1 day for a full year.

But not to worry, if it doesn't work then it doesn't work, I wont have lost a great deal , I spend more on a weekend away.

good for you Geoff.....

Brand awareness is what it is all about.... Who had heard of coca cola before they put it about??

Can you imagine a conversation between 2 carpet cleaners 35 years ago?

1. I think I will try putting out a few leaflets to see if anyone wants carpets cleaned..

2. Nay lad, only pikeies put out leaflets... Stick to the yellow pages, and let their fingers do the walking... Leaflets.....  huh.....

Then again 20ish years ago..

1. think I will get me one of those web site thingies..... to promote my business..

2. Nay lad.... only people who have website thingies are prom merchants and big stores..... stick to the leaflets that have been tried and tested......

See where I am going here??

keep us informed how it goes please...
