« on: July 18, 2016, 04:36:32 pm »
I'm in the south and concerned how hot it's going to be,I've got 18 jobs tomorrow ,all domestic, will be starting at eight to get a few done before it get to hot.
Will be drinking water after each job,and taking regular breaks ,I'm also 55 so not a youngster.
Any other tips appreciated.
Good luck to all that are in the same situation

Yeah, take the day off  :D ;D
I have an eot pre booked but that's it. I can start it at 10 am ( maybe fit a couple of jobs in before it ) and should be done by lunchtime then I'm planning to enjoy the weather rather than work in it - we get very few days like this.

I feel for you then ! it was hot enough today and only getting hotter tomorrow !
If at all possible try to plan your day as the sun moves - work in shade as much as you can, wide brimmed hat and shades , plenty of sun block. Iced drink in thermos ( keeps things cold too ). I've even doused myself down before with the wfp to cool off lol.
Maybe take a break for the hottest couple of hours of the day ? even if it means finishing later.

Get fit; run and lift weights; it makes working in the heat a lot easier.

I know, I know, I'm dead helpful me.

I should have known these last 2 yrs would bring the odd hot sunny days.
When i upgraded to wfp i sorted out my van and invested in a works uniform. Sadly for me i picked black,  so black trousers n black polo tops. Though i sorted s couple of t shirts out as well. But black absorbs heat and today its nearly killed me.

Gardiners Baseball cap - brilliant!
Fill it with water from the customers tap and put back on your head. Did it at least a dozen times today. Gotta be quick or the air holes let the water out!

I have a mate that cleans Windows, that has tattoos and works all year round in long sleeves and trousers to cover his tattoos! He has had the worst day of his life today!

I've had to roll my Kappa trackie bottoms up to my knees today and let the arse hang a bit lower than usual. Apart from that it's not been too bad.

if you cant stand the heat............finish earlier. ;D

drink plenty of water, snack on fruit in between lunch and slap the suncream on.

if you really feel bad in the heat then splash yourself with cold water and sit in the shade for 10 mins .its amazing what i difference it can make during a hot day working.

im not gonna be as smug as tosh but yeah weight training, cycling and taking the dog on long walks coupled with good nutrition has worked wonders for my health over the last 4 or 5 months.

in fact i go to the gym 3 times a week for around 70-80 mins each session(weights, exercise bike, rowing)these days(im 44)and really enjoy it.

my work hours are 30-35 hours a week window cleaning though so i have time.
price higher/work harder!

Hi nathan, why don't you just invest in some more white polo tops, and maybe some black shorts, just as a backup for hot
weather days.

I'm the same age Colin and and in S Essex and am mighty glad I'm not trad. That was bad news in the heat. Now I just shorten my pole and stand a bit closer to the wall. The spray off the upstairs ledges keeps me cool. Even then I've usually had it by 2pm in this heat. I've usually done a good days work by then tho, so's not too bad. As others have said, keep well hydrated, and protect your eyes.

Have the day off, get a magnifying glass and burn some ants; it's great fun.  Or go and call for any ginger people you know to come out and play.
If I have to work, I try and do some internal stuff and get out of the currant bun.  Like doing the insides of a conservatory roof,

I love working in this heat, drink lots of fluid, wear polarised sunglasses take it slower than usual and enjoy it. If gets to much finish early and continue the next day.

Good advice Mick.

Best to also to keep the sun off yer head too as mentioned before and cream up any exposed skin with a high sun factor cream if you are the type that can burn easily.

Thats what im starting to think now. My uniform is black with blue logo n name writing. So im now thinking a summer uniform of blue tops with black writing.

Maybe its maturity or wfp that ive taken a more business professionalism attitude on. In the past with exactly same customers, i just went in black vest t shirts n shorts. Lol picked up quite a number of new customers in summer for some strange reasons  ::)roll
