I started out servicing the cheap end of the market, and did so for 15 years.... lots and lots of experience, and always said that the poor deserve to have clean carpets too.... BUT..... in the end, I was getting more Doctors, Solicitors, supermarket owners etc, wanting a cheap job, than genuine poor customers (and even a lot of them had more disposable income than I did).
the only way to guarantee getting the quantity of work is to be the cheapest..... BUT.... unless you have a secondary income (dole, fireman etc) you will never be the cheapest, as there is always someone who will do it for less... They may not do a good job, they may not even use detergent or cleaning chems (I know of at least 12 people of such ilk)... But the custard will have had the job done, and a piece of paper saying so....
When I quit the business 3 years ago, I was actually one of the most expensive in my area, and still had to turn work away as I was too busy. I was a lot happier doing 1 or 2 jobs a day, for quadruple the money previously.... It just took the leap of faith, that my services were good enough to warrant the charge... Self belief......
So by all means start low, as you will get loads of experience, and 95% of the carpets will be mingers..... Once you have a year or so behind you, and if you are still in business... try a secondary line of marketing with a different company name, and prices a lot higher.... I bet that the higher price business gets more work....
