£84 k per year
« on: July 09, 2016, 05:47:15 pm »
Any one on here earns £84k per year.
I have been doing a communal clean / window clean for a housing association for over 12 years. I have lost it because I don't earn that amount.
They told me they wanted to make sure they were getting value for money, they set the price of the contract value  at £42k / £56 k per year which is more than I would of quoted for the work .
So to be able to quote you had to have a turn over of over twice the  contract value.
I asked why and they couldn't really give me a good reason.
We never had any complaints about our work
No loyalty in commercial work
I started out with nothing and Ive still got most of it left.

Sounds like a blag that mate they've probs took on another cleaner who someone in their office knows! Its nothing to do with them how much you earn as long as quality of services is high.

It's not that uncommon.
A company I quoted for a number of years ago wanted to know what our turnover was as they wouldn't take anyone on where their outlay was more than (from memory) 10% of our turnover.

If you think about it, it is sensible from their point of view.
It avoids the issue of employment if there's definite other work in the cleaners business.

And if an office or something relied on a cleaner every morning, say, but the cleaner was off ill for even a day-it can send the wrong example to their customers.

We clean a car showroom where they used to have a lady in to clean but if she was off sick it just didn't get done.
They couldn't operate like that.
So they called us.
I have a pair go in every morning (weekdays) to clean but if they're off sick or on holiday there are other people as back up and back up for the back up so it always gets done no matter what.
Though it does seem unfair to the one man band it does make sense from the company's point of view.

However... I'd never ever disclose our turnover to anyone at all...except HMRC & the accountants.
I'd never want a job that much.
And don't want to 'compete' with the 'big boys' anyway.

It's just the internet. Try not to worry.

They have these rules to keep the small guy out. Its a disgrace. Our council will not look at anyone with a low income. My son inlaw who is a facility manager at the London Uni, said it`s  to  weed out fly by night companies.

that makes sense to me. its not a disgrace. they want to deal with established companies because in balance it gives them more security and most likely act more professionally. or at lease they don't have to deal with as many fly by nighters as you call them. it takes time to get VAT registered. for us people who have gone to the trouble of getting VAT registered its reassuring i think because we are competing with companies with a similar setup
