Want someone to do my round for me, how to.......
« on: July 05, 2016, 09:07:47 pm »
Hi guys,

I have been thinking about putting someone on my round so i can do something else!

But never having done anything like this I'm not sure how to go about it? I like the idea of getting someone with they're own van
and putting the gear in it for them if need be( which they would have to pay me back for) and training them up to my way of doing things( so no previous experience preferred ) and have them go self employed so i don't have an employee as such.

So it's still my round, and I'll still deal with the customers and make any decisions etc etc, and pay them a reasonable sum
for doing a good job. I would set up the wages so they'll get paid more for working hard, no complaints etc.

Does this sound feasible? If not what are my options? Where is the best place to look for a good worker?
Can i advertise in the job centre etc.

 Any help/advice greatly appreciated .

Many thanks

Paul

So you want employees , without them being employees. Why would anyone do this for you?  Never mind the legal side of things which you would be SO far on the wrong side of. Good luck with that. In fact I wish you no luck at all.

You either need to employ properly, look at a lease agreement for the work or set up a franchise business.

If leased they cannot be reliant soley upon the work you provide as they should be legally employed. They'd need another form of income or work of their own to complete.

To be self employed the person has to use there own tools, pick when they work, have their own work too as well as subbing to you, tax man will come down hard on you if you don't do it properly bud

Set up a franchise business and have someone as a franchisee.

What Johnny's suggesting isn't legal, just as Steve Rix has pointed out.

He is either employed by you with employee benefits, pension, holiday leave etc. or he works for himself.

You can't have your cake and eat it to.

If he works as self employed then he will be responsible for doing the work you have provided him with using his own equipment.  You will need to invoice him (his business) for a handling fee as you have agreed.

If you want 10% and the work is £1000 then your invoice will be £100 which he will pay to you.

What you have to be aware of is that as he is self employed he will want his own work/round as well. You need to get legal advise to how you will manage your round and what restrictions he will have to agree to.
He could end up totally working for himself in the future and take some of your customers with him.

What happens to the work he looses? What often happens is that any new inquiries he gets he keeps for himself and any customers of yours he looses is your problem. He will be looking for customers he doesn't have to pay you for.

As has been suggested, franchising is probably the best way forward, but you still have to be involved with the business - he does the work and you grow the business.

You're very agreeable today Spruce. Perhaps its the sunshine  8)

To do it all properly (franchise business) will take time and a bit of investment. Get a good accountant.

Hi Paul

Take a look at jolisian.co.uk and give Ian (Lancaster) a call, I'm sure he'd be happy to discuss your options.
