Hi all

I'm posting this on behalf of a mate, so apologies if the info is vague but he's having a problem with his 450gpd RO and I'm at a loss!!

So the RO has just been fitted with brand new pre filters and brand new 150gpd membranes (x3)

Everything seems to be plummed in properly (in parallel) with an aquatec 8800 booster pump (@80psi) between the prefilters and membranes

Tap TDS is 320 ish, and the TDS is coming down to 4/5 but he's just not producing anything like what it should!!

In around 24hours it has produced around 550litres!!!(I used to get double that before I went to a 4040!)

He has a good length of hose between tap and RO (maybe 7/8metres) but has the booster pump on so I dont think its a pressure problem, and as far as he can see there are no kinks or blockages...


Any ideas as to why its so slow producing??

Might not be relevant but I have the same set up. When I first set it up, it was only running at around 55 psi, so I adjusted the little allen key (pressure switch) on top of the pump. This upped the psi to 80.

It's been running like for 3 years, although the pump has just packed in, see other post 

Does he have the waste set correctly? All schoolboy errors I know, but we have all been there!

I use a 450 gpd ro and a 60psi booster pump and 24 hrs with that on would get me more than that.
Has ur friend a psi gauge, if not i would suggest one to comfirm tap pressure as booster may be self priming but is it too strong for a weak tap psi running that length of hose??
Thats all i can think of for now if all plumbing seems to be right. Not much help tho, sorry

I think so Dave, its just the Blue open (flush) closed (pure) type of tap so I cant see how he'd not manage that!! (although he aint the best at figuring things out hence why I'm posting and trying to work it out over the phone!!!)

Yeah he's got a pressure guage, thats why he knows his boosters pumping at 80psi...

Dont know what his tap pressure is though, but would it make a difference if he's using a booster..?

My question is how sure are you/he that the membranes purchased are 150 GPD's?

Those 150 GPD membranes are a 'close' fit into the housings.  My original membranes were 75GPD and they were noticeably smaller in daimt.

My 450 GPD took about 28 hours to fill an IBC tank. My setup had an inline 3 to 1 restrictor.

@ Spruce - i did actually ask him that but i'm going on the fact that he's assured me they are 150gpd's

@ dave - I'll ask him to check the restrictor but I'm sure it's the right one (it's been a while since I've seen it)

I think he's going to give Doug (Daqua) a buzz a little later, as that's where the membranes were bought from...hopefully he'll have a suggestion or two!!
