how can someone scam you by paying with a bankers draft,  instead of paypal or bank transfer.when buying something off you,  if not in uk,      they live in eire.
or would you not entertain them.     in other words , dont get sucked in.

I thought (i havn't checked) that a bankers draught was more concrete than a cheque. Pay it in and it should clear straight away. Just confirm it cannot be reversed. Then release your goods ?

The danger is - is the draft a forgery? So you get it - off drives Mr McKiddycuddy in your van and you think your safe but when you present the draft to the bank the nice teller puts it under a blue light and a picture of Mickey Mouse stares back at you instead of James Joyce.

It's even worse; your bank pretty much can't check.  So you can even take it in and present it and they'll accept it and credit your account.

Later, when it goes through the clearing system and it's found to be false, they take the money back. Might be weeks later with an international transaction.  Avoid.

Not sure of what your selling but if its something like a van it would be very unlikely that it would be worth somebody
coming from Ireland to buy it.
The Euro exchange rate, plus charges and traveling expenses would make it too expensive.
Remember not all people who have an Irish accent live in Ireland even though some can supply you with an Irish address
if asked for, so just be careful.

When we bought a car we paid cash. The person we bought it from drove us down to the bank where he banked the money through the teller.  Once he did that he handed the car over.

This fellow didn't even trust cash wrapped with a Natwest teller's stamp on it.

Many years ago brother in law sold his caravan to someone who paid cash and towed it away. When he came to bank the money he was arrested as the notes were forgeries. The caravan was never seen again. He lost the lot.  Caravans and trailers aren't registered so they have little chance of being found.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that his name is still on record somewhere as dealing with forged currency.

I most certainly won't trust a cheque or draft. Not even sure Paypal is a guaranteed way of ensuring you get your money.

Actually -  loads of ppl I know pop over to the UK to buy cars and vans.

We do have to pay a hefty "Vehicle registration tax" when we bring the car back, but it still usually works out a couple of grand cheaper. Also - the roads in Ireland are more pothole than tarmac, so buying a 2nd hand vehicle over here without suspension issues is a minor miracle - - all ye softies with your silky smooth motorways and OCD tendencies tend to sell much better maintained vehicles, compared to models of similar ages & mileage over here.

I've sold a few to Irish folk. Their roads are terrible so they prefer to buy from the UK.

I WOULDNT SEND IT TILL FUNDS WERE WITHDRAWN ANYWAY. could take upto 2 weeks.     i thinks they may be pulling a fast one,   not going to entertain it,

eBay is full of scammers now, definitely wait till payment has cleared.

Personally I'd stay away from the bankers draft.

someone through gumtree,     i told him bankers draft will have to clear first, upto 2-3 weeks, before id post the pole,    havent heard from him since yesterday.
