Slx and extreme
« on: June 21, 2016, 10:54:52 am »
Has anyone gone back to the slx after being an extreme pole user concluding that the extreme is too fragile for day to day use ..?

definitely NO.the new xtremes are very robust AND lighter and more rigid.

by the way ive never  had trouble with the older xtremes.in fact ive never snapped a section of any pole.

Funny enough,i wanted to ask the same question actually!
The extreme 25 is a great pole but i think too fragile for me,thinking about going back to an slx to be honest.

Not much difference between them at those lengths to be honest. I use an SLX for conservatory roofs etc. I've snapped a few Extreme sections - they have to wear out eventually after all.

I have been an extreme pole user for the last 4 years day in day out and I have snapped loads of sections , some which have been kindly replaced by Alex under warranty and other times I haven't been able to claim as its wear and tear ... In the end I just got fed up of all the faf and having to pay about £90 for a section every time it broke ... For a pole that costs £500 quid I would expect better really so I have ended up going back to the slx it's heavier admittedly but it's not just all about the weight .... My body still ached when I used the extreme anyway do to the repetitive nature of our work .... I look forward now to having a hassel free pole that will last about 4 years and I won't even have to replace a section once ... I wasn't even heavy handed with the extreme but the sections just seem to brittle for a day in day out work horse pole .....

I have an extreme for high stuff (30ft plus)

Every day poles I use an SLX.
It's a game of three halves!

Most of my work is domestic stuff. I have got the Xtreme 25 and wouldn't go back to an SLX.  Yeah, I've snapped section 1 once, but was my own fault as I had the habit of shaking the pole from vertical to 45 degree angle in a whipping motion to get rid of excess water. I knew it was a bad habit, then one day I heard a 'click 'and next time I put my extension pack on, it snapped off  ::)roll
Been fine after that replaced. Broke the habit. Great pole. I don't particularly molly-coddle it either. Just careful when shutting windows.

Ok my 2nd pole I normally use for fsc has had it's day . I'm considering an extreme to go with my slx but this post has me thinking twice as they cost £700 odd pound for extreme 25, worth it or too brittle still or are latest versions hardier?

Thanks lads

I use a SLX25 for all day, every day stuff, with One extension when required and Xtreme 47 for anything above.
What I love about the SLX is the abuse you can give it, day in, day out, with minimal maintenance and it just laps it up! I'm still using a MKI section as an extension!!😲

an SLX pole will outlast an xtreme pole by years but i still usually buy a new xtreme pole every year!they just make your working day a lot easier IMO......

I am trying to look after this latest xtreme pole by dismantling the sections and flushing it out on a regular basis and spraying it with PTFE lubricant.......it does seem to wearing better because im keeping the insides super clean and free from grit....

it also depends on your work...i have lots of awkward windows to clean on my round on estate work and 1st floor windows that require the full 25ft to reach the top of them on period properties.......if i had just straight up and down windows with no reaching over extensions at full stretch, 3 storey, skylights, etc id stick with an SLX......but i havent! ;D

What!? Daz you’ve mentioned numerous times you’ve snapped sections? Hence why for a while you went back to SLX’s????
