I have an extreme for high stuff (30ft plus)

Every day poles I use an SLX.

Since then I have gone over to extreme for everyday use and am happy to have done so.

I switched to a Mk3 Xtreme from an SLX nearly four years back and personally I'd never go back to an SLX as my everyday pole.
Don't get me wrong, the SLX's are very nice poles and probably one of the best out there. I just prefer the Xtremes. 

They seem smoother to me, and their lightweight is also very noticeable to me. It took 2 and 1/2 years to wear through section no.3 of my  Xtreme 22  and another year before I broke section 2 trying to shut a particularly tight top opener which was entirely my fault. But having earned me three and a half years wages I don't really consider the cost of these two sections to be over the top in the light of how much nicer I find it to use.

In the dry months I hardly need to do any maintenance. Once the hose starts getting wet I increase the maintenance accordingly. In our wet winters I probably take it apart, clean it and re-tape the top two sections twice a week. But I enjoy doing it.

I personally would not call them 'fragile.' They are just less hardwearing and are more prone to breaking when we do things with them that no water fed pole is intended for, and potential buyers are given fair warning of this on Gardiners website.

I believe it is very much a case of personal preference.

definitely NO.the new xtremes are very robust AND lighter and more rigid.

by the way ive never  had trouble with the older xtremes.in fact ive never snapped a section of any pole.

What!? Daz you’ve mentioned numerous times you’ve snapped sections? Hence why for a while you went back to SLX’s?

That was 4 years ago......I've snapped at least 3 sections since then!

I can never understand this I will only use extreme poles and have never had a problem unless it was my fault trying to shut a window or similar,the old modular poles were different they were very fragile but at the time the lightest thing you could use if you stepped on one it would crush easily.
I wouldn’t have an SLX over an extreme if I got a bogof on the SLX.

I went back to an slx from extreme and now I wish I hadn't.

The slx will of course last much longer, my extreme snapped after about 8 months. But they are worth it.

Next pole will be another extreme.

wow some of you lot must be brutal on your poles, I switch to extreme when it came out I've had clamps upgraded with new levers and I added my own spring loaded washer, so I run a extreme 25ft with extention and a 18ft and they've been used daily since the start, they fell over from leaning on my van more times than I dare to admit, but never broken a single section I can't say much the new version as ive not used one or rich enough to splash out, i do maintenance once a year otherwise there used but not abused.

It’s nothing to do with the fact they don’t last it’s how they get treated if you throw them about close  windows with them etc of course they’ll break,never not had 1 last me at least 2 years or more.

Closing windows with your pole is an every day occurance especially this time of year, what do you extreme users do then if this isnt advisable? I would have to skip no end of windows if i couldnt  use the pole to push/tap them shut, especially velux ones.

If I’ve ever done that the best thing to do is turn the pole round and use the base section end to do it.

Thanks lads great response and the majority if not all say Xtreme is the way forward. My apologies for any confusion caused by reposting a 4 year old post I used the search function to research and went from there. I'll be buying it as  I have to say my shoulders are in bits of late!

Funny how we each see things different, i was thinking of getting one but this thread has put me right off   . If they're that fragile you cant close windows with them without risk of breaking the thing then they're no good for me, not when you consider the price.

Ya that's obviously a negative but in all fairness they are not designed to close windows. I close them with my slx but my custies are home 99% of the time  when I clean their windows so they can just close them

Like looking at a 240i and then an M2 pulls up ,5 minutes before you thought you’d go for the cheaper option until you test drove both.
Like eggs and apples those 2 poles.

I'm looking forward to trying the pole. I'm getting older and if it makes life easier it's worth it 🙏
