I'm going to have to put my gutter clearing prices up.
« on: June 20, 2016, 11:52:29 pm »
Chap already had 3 quotes to check and clear this small gutter run before I arrived to give him a quote.
I bet you can't guess what all three quotes were as i was even shocked how dear two of them were?

The first quote I kid you not was for £300 - the chap thought that was a wee bit steep.
Second quote was for £180 - the chap actually booked the job in with them before I arrived as wanted it sorted as soon as possible.  Both guys doing the above quotes did not even bother to look inside the guttering either as just stood on the ground looking at it.

Third quote (given over the phone) was for £70 but the firm could not do it for a week or so.

All of the above I only found out after doing a gutter cam inspection and giving my price.
The chap then asked what is your availability and I said I could sort it out now if you like. Hence why you see my set of ladders in the pic too. Needless to say it was less than £180 so he promptly cancelled the firm that was coming out to do it.

This is why I do gutter cam inspections as turned out to be a hand job so priced accordingly due to narrow gap between the tiles, slipped tiles and the stupid roof valley tray overhang in the guttering that was badly fitted as was way too long. Not to mention the thick root ball blocking the downspout bend that was cleared by taking the swan neck apart.

I wouldn't of used the cam. I just look at it and then go to the next one.

So how can you give an accurate quote and see for yourself what you are up against as some jobs/part jobs you can't do with a vac.
Not only that doing a gutter cam survey on each quote I've found is a great way to win work at a higher price too.

All the quotes were for just that small middle back gutter run in the pic with the two returns and corners either end which are technically not their guttering but the chap still wanted them checked and cleared too.

We don't, same charge for everyone £40.00 per side, unless there is grass growing out / bad access etc.

I spend 3-4 hours per day quoting, I try and get them done fast!

So you would charge the same £40 per side (per aspect) regardless no matter how long the total guttering is, how many downspouts there are, any access issues and/or any obstacle being in the way not to mention the height of the guttering.  That’s all before you have checked inside the guttering & downspouts to see what you are up against?

It takes me an average of 10 mins to do a guttter cam survey on domestic properties and that's including confirming what they need doing and giving a price for the job. I will also be honest and inform them after playing back the footage if the gutters/downspouts in my opinion need clearing or not unlike some rogues out there that just turn up and pretend to do the job.  ;D  ;D

99% of the time, no one is home.

Domestic only.
£40.00 per side
+£12.00 each story per side
+£5.00 per big growth
+£8.00 for bad access
+£5.00 for over conservatory

£25.00 per hour per man travelling out of our city.

Been using this for a while, will prob revise it when I get a chance. Not sure if it's cheap or not

So what happens if they just want one side doing and/or just one downspout unblocking?
Do you then have maybe set min price for that kind of job?

Oh I see...
This is an example of such a job that I charged £80 just for the front including re-seating one coupling rubber seal as the clip was undone Then another £80 to clean all the plastics.

Good price that. I've been thinking about putting our prices up, but not sure how much.

It's always a tricky one that but most I've found are happy to pay more knowing that the job is going to be done properly and more importantly safely. Like I mentioned before conducting a gutter cam survey whilst on a quote is also a great passive sale tool.
