For me it was ££££ that people were talking about on the forums.

I never researched the market or did any kind of business plan, i never considered competitiors etc.

i decided thats what i wanted to do and that i was going to do it, nothing else matters.

The only fact that mattes is theres other guys out there doing it which means its possible and if someone else can do it then i can do it, you can do anything you set your mind to i truly believe that.

Same Like Adam, I went for the £, believe me, it's not a passion to see dirty carpets all your life :)). When I first got my first booking I only spent £7 to get it, so I was impressed, then I spent many more ££££ and never got nothing out of it, so now I can see that lots of money go out of the window on marketing.

Do you guys think that it's a good idea to join directories like Yell.com, checkatrade, rated people etc ?

I can’t speak for the others on this thread, but to me carpet cleaning provides you with the opportunity to do an honest job for a fair reward; that’s why I have entered this industry.

My advice to those wanting to enter the carpet cleaning industry is to stop listening to the scaremainers. Any business you break into has its pitfalls, carpet cleaning isn’t the worst believe me.

Plan your business before you spend a penny, go on the courses that provide you with the training that you require in order to do a good job.  Conduct yourself properly and with respect for your customers, and you will do well.

Hi all

Thinking of starting a carpet and upholstery cleaning business in the Glasgow area. Still in the research stage.

Just wondering if anyone has started part time evenings and weekends to build confidence and experience?

I am thinking of doing some training in September and then start from there.

The Glasgow area is absolutely saturated by carpet cleaners.   I do carpet cleaning as small part of my business and would never dream of solely relying on it as a full time source of income.  Theres simply not enough well paying work around as all the guys doing a room for £10/15 are driving prices down.

Thanks for the advice scott. I have booked my self in for some training on the 9th Sept. I am getting made redundant and really want to use the money to start my own business. I will however take your feedback on board but I wont be going down the £15 a room route to start with however if all else fails ...

Facebook only works if you are prepared to clean carpets for next to nothing , but you are planting seeds by using Facebook and someone may recommend you from that
It's cheap way to advertise that's for sure, I spend in excess of 7k a year in marketing
