Broken tap
« on: June 01, 2016, 08:54:16 am »
Hi all, wondered if anyone could advise. A client just complained that her bath tap was dripping when she got home and as she turned it it came off in her hand after the cleaners had been in. I have spoken to the trusted team member and she said it was a bit loose and had been for a few weeks but wasn't detached when she was there. It sounds like the bolt has loosened over time so would you offer to pay to get it fixed or not? I think we may loose the client if we don't.

Thanks in advance

Regardless of who's liable, is it worth losing the contract for the sake of a repair on a tap ?

All depends on how much it's going to cost to repair/replace as I'm sure the customer is aware that it was faulty and has probably already got quotes so due to cost trying to blame you . Some baths due to awkward access need removing so what seems a straight forward job can cost hundreds. In my case to replace the taps on the Jacuzzi bath we have a plumber would need to remove not just the bath but the sink and toilet too.

We are going to check it out. To me it sounds like the bolt has come loose. Its the whole angry attitude that gets me. I am so accommodating with clients and have been nothing but helpful with it and the narky comments just annoy me. Lifes too short to stress over a tap lol!

Ask yourself realistically how a cleaner damage a tap just by cleaning it to the point that it falls off in someones hand.  That customer is taking the pee and more fool you if you get it repaired/replace.

Smurf, thats how I feel. I am also worried that if she doesnt realise that wear and tear isn't our responsibility what else may she deem our fault in the future.

Tim, I will see how it pans out but sometimes its better to loose a client than have a totally unreasonable one. Its a fine line but I am lucky as this is the first potentionally unreasonable claim I have had in 8 years so not bad.

Thanks guys

Normally when they kick off and get angry over something that they try to blame the cleaner that is obviously wear and tear alarms bells should start to ring as you have pointed out where is it going to stop. It's your company but I know what I would do as customers like that are not worth the hassle. Aggression can be a sign of mental illness too as we all know there are plenty of fruit cakes about that we bump into in this game.  ;D

Yes thanks Smurf. I will see what the supervisor says after she has looked at it then work out my reply. Thanks for the advice, just helps to have another opinion when dealing with this sort of thing. Keen to avoid fruit cakes! lol ;D

Talking about fruit cakes I had a knock on the door from next door yesterday accusing me affecting their t.v signal from her sky box due to a t.v aerial that I had replaced a few days ago. It's over 8 meters away and pointing in a totally different direction than her sat dish.

She was going crazy F ing this F ing that when I was trying to explain to her & hubby that my new aerial would not interfere with her signal and the difference between a sat dish and a t.v aerial. Needless to say they both were not listing so in the end said best you contact sky your service provider and left it at that.  We have lived next to each over for over 30 years and that was the first time I've ever heard her swear or raise her voice so did make me chuckle. Bless her ;D ;D

Some people are crazy! I like a peaceful life lol.

May response, lets see how it goes down lol
Hi Lisa,

My supervisor has been in and looked at the tap as requested. She couldn't see how this could have been caused through cleaning as the cause seems to be that the bolt that holds the tap in place underneath the bath has come loose. We don't feel this is down to the cleaning more a loosening over time.

Kind regards,

Melanie

I got the Clampets one side and the noise police the other. Accross the road I have a dried up lesbian and next door to her a couple with no kids or pets and nothing better to do than curtain twitch polish the car.

A bath tap is awkward to replace and lets face it must have been dodgy - I'd rather not have a customer that would try that trick
