Removing chewing gum
« on: May 27, 2016, 01:53:00 pm »
Hello guys

Started cleaning a Tarmac car park this morning, straight forward job with my pressure washer remove all moss were applicable clean Tarmac and painted lines, all crap into on-site bins, car park closed off for me and plenty of taps to fill as I work.

I explained to them that my machine wouldn't get all the chewing gum up ( some will come up but not all as it's cold water ) beforehand and this was all ok, great, don't worry about the gum.

Customer had now changed there mind and  me wants me to remove the chewing gum before I clean the car park.

I will have to hire a machine in to do this, but will I be better off with a steamer or a hot pressure washer.

Thanks
Matt

Hot pressure washer all the way. Be careful as if you are inexperienced you could make holes in the Tarmac

Hello Charlie,

Thanks for ur help, am going to hire a hot karcher washer for next weekend end, I just wasn't sure which would be quickest at removing the gum, hopefully a weekend will be enough and we can clean it at the same time.

I will be extra careful tho as don't want no issues with holes appearing

As mentioned , if you apply too much pressure , you will cause lines in the tarmac. You will only notice these when dried out .
Clean the car park first before removing chewing gum . This will show the chewing gum that is behind the dirt
Steamer will work but it is slow . A combination of heat and pressure will speed the job up
However this is still time consuming  with the correct equipment
