Creosote
« on: May 25, 2016, 04:50:02 pm »
Been to look at a job today, railway sleepers built up to make retaining walls, edge the paths and sets of steps, unfortunately the "landscape gardener" has used sleepers with creosote and last week in the warmer weather they have leeched tar/creosote - some over the pavers but mainly it's in puddles on the tops of the wood, they are worried as the grandchildren play and sit on them.

Any thoughts on removal/cleaning?

If you use a solvant then the stain will spread. First I would freeze the clumps and chip them off. Then wet the area to prevent re adhesion and use a tar remover like http://www.bonnymans.co.uk/products/product.php?categoryID=1429&productID=6451

Cheers.

ill get some of that, give it a try, worth doing a test to see how effective it is and how long it takes, plus gain experience ( although i may never see this problem again 😜 )
