Hi Mick

If your work is mainly domestic dont work in teams. I have tried all ways using WFP.  One guy on his own using WFP will do at least 80% of the work of 2 guys.

That is of course once you get into the swing of things. Say 2 months or so.

Cheers

Andrew

  Mick,

Best thing I've done is moving over to WFP, plus living in Scotland the TDS level
is that low your resin lasts for ages. I went the DIY route and now it's paying
off and my business is expanding.

I completely agree with that, I have my son working with me and i use WFP on 95% of my work, Half the time he has not got a lot to do.
And i don't really get any more done with two of us as i did on my own.

  Mick,

I did looked around at cheapest prices for parts to make  up the system:-

  Tank
  Poles
  Microbore Hose
  http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/

  Di Vessel
  Resin
  http://www.gapswater.co.uk/

  Pump
  http://www.williamsonpumps.co.uk/

  Varistream
Box to house Varistream and Pump.
  http://www.cleantech.co.uk/

This is the route I went, then you need to source connections from B&Q etc..

I've got all the info stored on an excel spreadsheet, I'll mail the details if
   you want.

Based in Stirling if you need any help.

Yes I wonder weather its worthwhile having people working with you.

I am in my 27th year w/cleaning and have had somebody working with me for approx 20 of those years.

My youngest son works with me presently. He hated trad w/cleaning, he was so  slow but he did a resonable job.

I have to confess out of everybody who as worked with me over the years, and their as been some who were pretty rapid w/c. I have never got done in a day what I could do on my own in  2 full days work.

I have to say my son is faster then me at wfp, But he does not quite match the quality of my work. We earn more as a team wfp in a day then trad, but once again it does not work out as twice as much in a day as I can get on my own.

In the short term we will work together, Long term if we expand I will put another van on the road and we will work seprately to earn more money,

Nel.

Ive been employing for15yrs for over 10 of them ive had my cousin working for me known as 'broken flask' hes been a real w****r i am glad to get shut of him, ive never had any luck getting anyone regular or reliable.  If you can get someone or a family member who fits the bill look after them well,  ive had allsorts work for me over the years i told one lad when he goes on ladders his money will go up. Started him on the downstairs on his second day he needed to use a pointer on some of the downstairs windows and he thought his money was going up ... priceless, i could write a book

I now work alone wfp and ive never been happier it'll have to be the right person before i employ again, had years of worrying wether the works going to get done on time or wether thery are going to turn up for work

Best days work you did Brett was get rid of that parasite.dont want to say told you so,but nice to see everything we talked about has worked out fine for you, except youve passed all your stress on to me ;D

lets explain why hes called" broken flask" ;he would phone Brett up saying hes having major heart surgery tommorrow so wont be in,but will be in the next day,the next day came and he would be having brain surgery, but would be in the following day. I suggested to Brett the only excuse he hadnt used was he would have to have a week off cus hes BROKEN HIS FLASK and its stuck ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I had a virgin once ;D ;D ;D ;D

there's always one who lowers the tone! ::)

No really I couldn't employ anyone, I would be worried sick if they were going to pinch something, from an open window. or I would have to keep running around checking there work. like you said I think the only one you could really trust is your own family.

Oh my, I could write a book on this subject :-\

the last person I employed was Squeaky and I ended out selling him just about all of the domestic work I had left!

At one point I had 4 guys working for me and over an 17 year period I must have had 70 or 80 people at least make a start.

The frustration of finding someone reliable drives you round the bend, and if they last more than a day or 2 it takes about 3 months before you have them properly trained up and able to do a consistantly good job at a reasonable speed.

At the very beginning you will find yourself cleaning all of the upstairs, most of the downstairs and then going over the couple of windows they have managed to clean picking up their mistakes.
You have to show them just how to use a squeegee properly, I have even held the hand of a new operative and guided them around the pane of glass :o

Once upon a time I had pairs working for me, or sometimes 3 of them, I soon learned the most efficient way of getting work out of them.

Separate them and have them working by themselves.

Even if you have just the one working for you, once you have spent all that time nursemaiding them and getting them up to speed, drop them off on clusters of houses (if they don't drive (and sometimes even if they do!)) with ladders, bucket and scrims, give them a target and leve them too it.
For a while you are still spending half your time going back to check on the work they have done, if you find a mistake or a sill unwiped then you send them back to do it again, or even the whole house .
You will rarely do as much work as you used to do because you have to check up on them to make sure standards are being kept, also you will have to be picking them up and dropping them off.

If they stay long enough, eventually you will be paying them petrol money to use their own car, buying them a ladder rack and just giving them their work list at the start of the day.

If you are doing lots of large(ish) commercial stuff then you will be supplying them with a van and sending them out fully equipped, you will be employing them properly, minimum wage (almost certainly somewhat above the legal minimum too), bonus schemes (essential for incentive), paying out for expensive Employers liability insurance and so on and so on.

2 people working together will NEVER do the same amount of work as 2 people working separately.
Over the years I put an awful lot of effort into time and motion studies, there are times when the job calls for more than one person, and when 2 are working together, getting the most out of them is an art in itself.

And of course if they last a year or two they will eventually realise that they can work for themselves and keep ALL of the money :'(
At least 6 of my 'ex' employees are still going strong with their own window cleaning business.
After Squeaks I gave up :-\
Not bothering to employ now...though I have a feeling I will be employing a son later this year...sigh...just as I'm starting to earn good money by myself, have a round filled up with just the right amount of work I am going to have to emerse myself back into a huge drive to pick up double the work I now have.

Which will mean paying out loads of wonga to equip son with WFP...a damn sight  more expensive than a ladder, a BOAB, pouches, applicator, squeegee and a couple of scrims :'( :'(

ive had a few people work for me and when you spot a mistake and tell them they havent done that job right they look at you like your half daft.
i found myself worrying if the job was getting done right and constantly checking there work.Im bl..dy sure if it was there business it would be a different story.Anyway i worked alone today knowing the work was of a high standard and saved myself wages in the process.
if i eat myself will i be twice as fat or will i disappear?
