Web site advice please
« on: May 06, 2016, 06:19:39 pm »
need to get a website built, have spoke to two different companies, and got two quite different opinions.

First one is that the website will hardly list in Google search results and will take monthly SEO and PPC to get the web site moving up the ranks. For this a monthly consultancy fee would be payable.

Second one is that with good SEO you can see instant great results, but it is not guaranteed.

I've never had a web site built before, so would be good to get some feedback on others experiences.

Do some research into your area and see what the competition is like for your keywords.

first dont spend any money its so easy to do it yourself. if you really want someone to build it for you then my advise would be  find a site you really like that has lots of functions. then go to

 https://www.freelancer.co.uk

post the job, people will bid on the build. you then choose the winner. you can check each person out from their feed back from past jobs. these guys will just copy the site you like the look of with some chances to make it yours. you would not believe what you can get done for a really cheap price.  these guys will go over and above the service you would get here in the UK for a fraction of the price

next, get and read

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Guide-Google-AdWords/dp/1599185423?ie=UTF8&ref_=asap_bc

and your done.

or

you can just buy some web space on

https://www.heartinternet.uk/

best deal is home pro as it has  MySQL Databases

then in the control panel use wordpress site builder and  your done.

wordpress make building and maintaining a website easy and has lots of videos on "how to" it has themes, the way the site looks, and plug ins how the site works.

hope thie helps

PS when someone says where they rank they mean on the seo part of the page. problem here is you have no control over this position. and google uses adwords then local above seo when it builds the page when you search. plus no two searches are the same. seo is great for longtail words as people dont use them in adwords. if your going the seo road focus on longtail and that will support any popular terms you might like. google can and will take months and even years of hard work on your part away over night. their motivation is adwords. local can be worth your time for free if you can build good online reputation. that means asking customer or should I say getting your customers to give your local listing a comment.

It is possible to get good first page rankings for a new website in 2 or 3 months IF you don't have a lot of competition locally and IF you do a good bit of social media work, some blog writing, and make sure your new site is listed in a few online directories. I build websites for a living & manage it fairly regularly - - but I also see ppl who don't make the effort with blogging & social media who are still underwhelmed after twice that time. You get out of it what you put in!

Remember that "content is king" - Google loves to see fresh, well written, unique content - and regularly updated content too. So a website with more pages & more words on each page will stand a better chance of getting good organic rankings than a smaller minimalist site (That's a bit over simplified, but the principle holds) and adding new content every week with a blog post can work wonders too.

The more competition you have & the less work you do, the longer it will take, and the lower your final ranking will be - - but I would nearly always recommend putting the effort (and even money if required) into content creation rather than paying for Adwords. In my experience I've always found off-line advertising to give better return on investment than Adwords.

The one area where Adwords can't be beaten is if you need online exposure for an area where search traffic is low. There's no point having first page rankings if your search term only gets 3 searches a month,.. and Organic rankings are passive, relying on search volume.
Adwords is an active system - it places your listing in related search results, going out & getting traffic from searches that you would never have appeared in organically.... but because some of these "related" searches are actually quite different from your targeted search phrase, the click through rate and bounce rate are rarely as good as organic results...
