If using privately you don't need anything at all!!!

But as mymatemattbateman has posted ipaf - course is around £250 and will cover all the categories you require

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

Renewal is after 5 years, u get a booklet to write in what work ya do and depending on how much use depends on if u have to resit the full test

U do ya test and find out right away if u have passed, first is a written test after watching a few videos, and then have a play on the machine.
U get ya ipaf license sent to u in the post

to show competency to use.

Competency is defined as having had training, is technically knowledgeable and has experience. You only get that with time.

If you wish to be qualified, which is different, to use an elevated working platform from the ground then I.P.A.F. is what you are likely to need; taking into consideration your initial question.

Im going on another course this week (working on roofs with fall arrest) but from what I understand there's no accreditation attached to it, I just want it for my own safety and awareness. The day after I have a 210 panel solar panel cleaning job to do as  rooftop array at about 40' on top of some commercial premises in London.

I wouldn't be comfortable doing the work without any training.

Depending on the height of the job you can hire a picker with operator. Most operators do a bit of window cleaning as well
I started out with nothing and Ive still got most of it left.

 ???

You hired a  MEWP, then both climbed out onto the roof ?? Not being picky but can't see a harness either.
